About the Role
We are seeking a Physician Assistant (Oncology Support)—also known as a Clinical Associate—to join our busy, patient-centered oncology practice. This is a key role positioned between nursing and physician responsibilities, designed to support oncologists in both patient care and administrative functions, while ensuring continuity of service across four practice branches.
The successful candidate will play an essential part in enhancing patient experience, streamlining workflow for oncologists, and helping to deliver the highest standard of cancer care.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct initial patient consultations, collect medical histories, and perform physical examinations.
- Order and interpret routine diagnostic tests under supervision of oncologists.
- Assist in treatment planning and monitoring patient progress.
- Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatment plans, side effects, and aftercare.
- Support oncologists with workflow efficiency, including documentation and record-keeping.
- Coordinate follow-up appointments, referrals, and communication with labs, radiology, and other healthcare providers.
- Provide cross-branch support and ensure consistent care standards across all locations.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to patient-centered care initiatives.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education / Registration:
- Bachelor of Clinical Medical Practice (BCMP) or equivalent Physician Assistant qualification.
- Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) (Clinical Associate category) or equivalent recognized body.
- Oncology or hospital-based clinical experience is advantageous.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong clinical knowledge and assessment skills.
- Excellent communication and patient education ability.
- Empathy and resilience to support patients through difficult treatment journeys.
- Sound administrative and record-keeping skills.
- Flexibility to travel across all four practice branches.
- Team player with the ability to work under the supervision of oncologists while maintaining a level of autonomy.
