One to One Africa is a South African-registered non-profit organization dedicated to transforming the lives of families especially children, women, and young people affected by poverty and chronic illness, including HIV. Our mission is to bridge critical gaps in healthcare, education and psychosocial support in under-served communities ensuring families not only survive but thrive.
We are seeking an experienced Community Nurse. The Community Nurse is a community-based outreach health worker who will be responsible for managing a group of approximately 25 Mentor Mothers (MMs) and supporting the programme with his/her clinical knowledge. They will report to the Clinical Manager. The role is primarily field-based and involves walking house-to-house through difficult terrain on a daily basis to provide Mentor Mothers with support, supervision, and guidance, as well as identifying serious cases to be referred to local clinics and/or hospitals. Passion for outreach and community development work, as well as promoting maternal and child health, is a key requirement for the role.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the implementation of the programme on a daily basis, ensuring that it is delivering against the objectives
- Conducting daily home visits with Mentor Mothers
- Dealing with serious cases referred by Mentor Mothers
- Writing referrals for clients to hospitals, clinics, and social services
- Facilitating community workshops to raise awareness about breastfeeding, PMTCT, HIV, TB, and other topics as needed
- Identify the training needs of Mentor Mothers and conducting trainings
- Liaising, and maintaining strong relationships, with clinic managers, hospital staff, community members, and other stakeholders
- Provide feedback on Mentor Mother performance to the Programme Manager
- Mediate conflict between staff when necessary
Requirements:
- Qualified staff/enrolled nurse;
- At least 2 years’ experience with outreach work and community-based care;
- Strong knowledge of maternal and child health issues;
- Experience managing people, with strong interpersonal skills
- Physically fit and able to walk long distances (including up hills);
- Honest and reliable;
- Ability to work independently and be self-motivated;
- Willingness to live and work in remote and/or rural areas;
- Passion for community development;
- Excellent English communication skills;
- Must be fluent in isiXhosa
- Computer literate and familiarity with mobile technology (smartphones, apps)
- Experience working on a mobile health data collection app
- A driver’s license
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: R18 500,00 - R21 000,00 per month
