Job Description
The Employee Relations Advisor is a Specialist role within the P&O structure responsible for Employee Relations practices and systems at the operations. The role ensures all aspects of ER support are compliant and is in line with Valterra Platinum guidelines and practices.
Roles and responsibilities include the below:
- Expert advice and compliance through constant reviewing of developments in the ER field to ensure effectiveness and alignment of knowledge in ER team.
- Ensure that procedures are compliant with legislation.
- Ensure that procedures are used to the full by all stakeholders by regularly auditing usage and application.
- Advice management on the most appropriate cause of action when decision relates to function.
- Provide advice and interpretation to any stakeholder in so far as the function utilization and integration with other HR functions is concerned.
- Provide regular information to all stakeholders regarding use and trends specific to the function.
- Regularly conduct f ER audits to ensure effectiveness and compliance.
- Hold and attend disciplinary and grievance inquiries.
- Identify potential conflict situations and minimize the implications.
- Litigate cases at the CCMA on behalf of the employer.
- Manage stake-holder relations and relationship building initiatives .
- Control discipline and ensure fair decisions regarding Industrial Relations.
- Maintain good employee relations through effective two-way open communication with line managers and employees and develop a trusting and mutual respect relationship with internal and external service suppliers.
- Effective development and application of the necessary ER administration systems and practices through provision of accurate ER related information.
- Support projects for the implementation of applicable Safety, Regulations, The Act, Codes of practice and standards.
- Ensure that ER systems used and procedures are competitive, legal, integrated with other Valterra Platinum systems and understood by employees
This role is in the People & Organisation Department at a Band 6/10 level reporting to the Section Manager ER/ Manager P&O Operations
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree/Advanced Diploma in Human Resource Management
- Post Graduate Diploma in Labour Law (advantageous)
Experience
- At least five years Human Resources experience, of which three years should in Employee Relation preferably in the mining environment or related.
Knowledge and Skills
- Proficient in the interpretation and implementation of the LRA.
- Proficient in negotiation, problem solving and diplomatic skills.
- Proficient skills in relationship building with stakeholders (internal & external).
- Proficient skills in dispute or conflict resolution.
- Valid EB/Code 08 driver’s licence
