This role is an entry level position focused in supporting the Project Manager. The purpose of the position is to assist with co-ordination and management of projects within the Built Environment from conception to completion, including management of related professional services within the IDFM Department to meet the objectives and the requirements of the end-users within specific legislated parameters. This role also involves directing infrastructure projects, defining tasks and timelines, coordinating across departments, managing budgets, and ensuring timely delivery.
- National Diploma or equivalent in any Built Environment Qualification (Civil/Structural Engineering, Quantity Survey, Construction Management)
- Candidate registration with any built environment statutory body
- At least Three (3) years’ relevant experience
- A Valid Driver’s License
- Prior project management experience in construction related disciplines/ the built environment is recommended
- Assist with engaging the stakeholders or end-users to ascertain their requirements
- Assist in preparing submissions and obtaining project request approval from various authorized platforms
- Assist with initiating the project following the university’s project initiation processes, procedures and guidelines
- Assist with managing the project from inception, conceptualization, feasibility studies, designs, execution, closure and handover stages
- Assist with engaging in the process of appointing and managing consultants and contractors
- Assist with drafting, obtain endorsement and manage contracts (JBCC or SLA)
- Assist with compiling tender documents and initiate tender process
- Participate in the tender evaluation process
- Assist with management and monitoring of compliance with architectural design manuals in consultation with independent architects and implementation of procedures necessary to ensure compliance where non-compliance has occurred
- Assist with managing infrastructural development projects on sound business principles, costing for a surplus, generating funds, and upgrading physical resources.
- Assist with planning for future development in line with strategic business objectives
- Assist with organizing and chairing project meetings
- Assist with compiling monthly or quarterly reports for the various institutional forums
- Assist with managing project finances / budget
- Assist with managing both internal and external project resources
- Assist with overseeing all OHS and Environmental aspects of the project
- Assist with engaging local council / authorities where required and coordinate the approval of submitted plan
- Assist with assessing and process all project claims
- Use of university policy and procedures to establish a clear and ethical business environment
- Visits sites of building projects during their construction and confers with field inspection staff to determine contract and regulation compliance.
