Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Lab Technician to join our petrochemical laboratory. The ideal candidate must have 1-2 years of experience in lubricant testing and analysis, with a strong understanding of industry standards and testing methodologies. This role involves performing laboratory tests, maintaining equipment, and ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine and advanced laboratory tests on lubricants, including viscosity, density, flash point, oxidation stability, and elemental analysis.
- Operate and maintain laboratory instruments such as viscometers, spectrometers, chromatography systems, etc.
- Follow standardized test methods (ASTM, ISO, etc.) and document findings accurately.
- Assist in research and development activities for new lubricant formulations and quality improvements.
- Ensure compliance with laboratory safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address technical issues and improve lab processes.
- Maintain accurate records and generate report (Certificate of analysis ) based on test results/ reports
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate with maintenance teams for repairs.
- Support quality control initiatives by verifying raw materials and finished product specifications.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Education: Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Analytical Chemistry, or a related field.
- Experience: 1-2 years in a petrochemical or lubricant testing lab.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in laboratory testing methods for lubricants, with hands-on experience in analytical instruments.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with ASTM, ISO, and other industry standards for lubricant testing.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to conduct precise testing and maintain data integrity.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in the lab.
- Team Player: Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in oil analysis techniques such as ICP spectroscopy and Karl Fischer titration.
- Knowledge of lubricant formulation and additives.
- Previous experience in an ISO 17025-accredited laboratory.
Work Environment:
This role is in-office. Applicant must be able to reliably commute to our facility in Jacobs, Durban.

Pay: R10 000,00 - R12 500,00 per month
