Laboratory Administrator

Duties/Pligte

• Overseeing and managing the laboratory's quality assurance.
• Ensuring compliance with biosafety and ethical regulations.
• Managing laboratory equipment maintenance.

• Routine processing and storage of blood, saliva, and stool samples.
• Routine DNA and RNA extraction from blood, saliva, and stool samples.
• Processing, organising, and summarising data using scientific, word processing, and statistical software applications.

• Assisting with grant applications, budgeting, and procurement.
• Maintaining the research group website and social media pages.

• Providing training and mentorship to students and research staff.
• Performing all duties within the context of Stellenbosch University's Mission, Vision, and Values.

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes

• A postgraduate degree (MSc or higher) in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Genetics, or Molecular Biology, or related discipline.
• At least two years' laboratory administration experience.
• Familiarity with laboratory regulatory requirements.
• Strong background in molecular biological techniques, including DNA and RNA isolation, PCR, genotyping and real-time PCR.
• Computer literacy (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
• Excellent organisational, problem-solving and communication skills.
• The ability to work independently as well as within a research team environment.
• The ability to communicate in English.

Recommendation/Aanbeveling

• Experience in microbiome and human genome research.
• Previous involvement in a research-intensive environment.
• Experience with REDCap and LIMS software.
