We are looking for a young, enthusiastic O&P who is willing to build and manage the practice, develop skills and tackle challenges with enthusiasm. Our intention is to train a young O&P for the continuation of the high standards of O&P we have established in the North of Johannesburg.
A general description of our requirements are as follows:
- General O&P duties in the consulting rooms & hospital wards. This includes interfacing with patients, making and recording diagnoses, as well as following orthotic and prosthetic prescription. (Naturally, you would be assisted and taught the protocols of the practice, until you are confident enough to take on patients of your own.)
- Continuous product training will also be provided from time to time, as well as exposure to various forums with surgeons and other related professionals, so as to constantly improve your knowledge, skills and relationships with these professionals.
- Manufacturing of O&P items as and when needed according to prescription, or at own discretion based upon patient needs and requirements.
- On-call duties outside of normal work hours (when on call). I.e. following the scheduled roster list for cases which require service after hours or weekends and public holidays. (There is a call roster indicating which weekends and public holidays each O&P is on call. This has been fairly drawn up so that each O&P works call roughly 1 in 4 or 5 weekends.)
- The rooms are closed over weekends however, although not an everyday occurrence, we respond to call-outs from hospital wards, casualties etc as required.
- Building interpersonal relationships with colleagues, referring doctors and physio’s etc.
- Participation in CPD and related activities.
- Promotional work by way of visiting doctors, physio’s, biokineticists, etc, showing new products and maintaining contact with these professionals.
- Assisting colleagues within the practice with matters arising in the rooms, wards or workshop, including theatre work as may arise.
- Maintaining a high standard of professionalism and work ethics, and general promotion of the practice.
Our requirements:
- No criminal records, pending claims, criminal matters or investigations, judgements or convictions for medical or other negligence, malpractice, fraud or outstanding HPCSA matters or enquiries. Please disclose these if applicable.
- Good state of health.
- Own reliable transport.
- Minimum qualification of Medical Orthotist-Prosthetist (CPO) from a recognized training institution.
- WiFi and Internet is available in the rooms, but we have a zero tolerance policy for breech of patient confidentiality or other activity which could bring the practice into disrepute.
