What are we looking for?
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented SHE Officer who is passionate about promoting a safe and healthy work environment. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations, excellent communication skills, and the ability to implement and monitor SHE policies effectively. A collaborative mindset and the ability to engage with employees at all levels are essential.
What do we expect from the candidate?
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and safety audits across the organization.
- Develop and implement SHE policies, procedures, and training programs.
- Investigate incidents and accidents and recommend corrective actions.
- Promote a culture of safety and environmental awareness among employees.
- Maintain accurate records and prepare reports for management and regulatory bodies.
- Collaborate with various departments to support continuous improvement in SHE performance.
The key responsibilities:
- Prepare/review, implement/maintain/update all relevant SHE documents.
- Ensure all checklists are completed and signed off. This includes Assets (Fleet, Building, etc),
- Find solutions to non-compliance in conjunction with management.
- Conduct baseline risk assessment with Management/Consultant which are task specific on respective work areas to measure safety and quality within the workplace.
- Ensure compliance to all legislations/regulations such as Hazchem requirements, Road Worthy Tests, R638 certification, vehicle safety, medical tests, etc.
- Assist with SHE improvement proposals, proposed corrective action, required resources for corrective action and plan of implementation on CARs issued.
- Conduct SHE Committee Meetings (plan, scheduled and review) and general meetings.
- Attend meetings and Chair meetings as required
- Investigate the root cause of SHE incidents / complaints.
- Coordinate and participate in the investigation of incidents, accidents and near misses.
- Assist in developing all the required documentation, operational checks and reports for Management. Ensure that all data is available, organised systematically on excel for reporting purposes.
- Ensure System to be compliant with OHS Act, Food Cosmetics and disinfectants Act, Traffic Laws, Covid – 19 /pandemic
- Assist in developing and implementations of the ISO 45001, ISO 14001, etc..
- Establish Safe Work Procedures, Standard Operating Procedures and Safe Work Instructions for tasks as and when required.
- Plan and coordinate SHE related training.
- Ensure accurate registration and record keeping of all legislative requirements (i.e., PPE registers, Awareness training registers, all office inspection related registers, etc).
- Assist in ensuring thar CAR is initiated, costed, and closed.
- Assist with quality related matters as and when required.
If you possess…
Must-Have:
- Matric (Grade12), SAMTRAC and Food Safety or relevant qualification.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in SHE.
- Must have operational experience.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office packages.
- Ability to work autonomously.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge in administrative duties. Knowledge of safety/quality administrative systems.
