As the SHEQ Officer, you will be responsible for implementing the company’s occupational health and safety policies, ensuring legal compliance across SHEQ domains, and promoting a risk-aware culture. You'll monitor the environmental impact of operations and lead efforts to reduce risk and enhance employee wellbeing.
Minimum Requirements
- Diploma or NQF Level 6 in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, or related field
- Up to 5 years' experience in a SHEQ or risk-related function
- Solid knowledge of legal requirements and SHEQ legislation
- Strong auditing, investigation, and reporting skills
- Ability to work independently, with a methodical and compliance-driven mindset
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Duties & Responsibilities
- Implement and uphold SHEQ policies, procedures, and systems in line with legislation and company guidelines.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate potential and actual risks across operations – from safety and environmental hazards to operational and compliance risks.
- Monitor legal compliance and manage all audit processes (internal/external), including safety, environmental, DoL, ASIB, insurance, and health audits.
- Manage construction site safety, project risks, shutdowns, and site closures.
- Ensure business continuity and disaster recovery systems are maintained.
- Oversee statistics and SHEQ reporting processes with accuracy and consistency.
- Liaise with government bodies, contractors, and management to maintain legal and regulatory alignment.
- Oversee on-site security operations and personnel.
- Control SHEQ-related budget and drive cost-effective compliance.
