The main purpose of this position is to effectively manage the shift production and operation of the Laboratory to ensure the efficient running and proper supervision of the Shift. Manage the receiving, preparation, analyses and reporting of samples according to Laboratory processes and Client needs.

Qualification Requirements
- Matric (Grade 12) or an equivalent qualification registered at NQF Level 4
- A three-year Degree or Diploma in Analytical Chemistry would be advantageous.
- Computer Literate in MS Office
- Valid driver’s licence code B, EB or C1
- 3 years’ experience as a Laboratory Supervisor
- Knowledge and good understanding of sampling techniques (ISO) e.g. contamination, representative sample and integrity of a sample
- Knowledge of Laboratory Equipment and Laboratory systems (ICP-OES, XRF, Leco, potentiometric titrators etc.) and other mineral assays as required
- Knowledge and understanding of Quality Management system (ISO/IEC 17025)
- Knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods
- Knowledge and experience of relevant software applications - spreadsheets, word processing, Lims and database management
- Time management
- Ensure compliance with Quality Laboratory Services Health and Safety responsibilities, legal and operational requirements.
- Identify hazards and risk while performing daily tasks and take preventative measures
- Follow the correct chemical control measures at all times and ensure accurate reagent stock counting
- Works closely with the Laboratory/Quality Supervisor to plan, schedule and implement QA related activities
- Organize internal and external audits
- Collate information – Quality assurance (validations)
- Ensure routine preparation of samples (crushing, pulverizing, filtering, rolling, splitting and drying)
- Ensure Logging and receiving of samples on the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
- Ensure correct Marking and labelling of sample tags and sample containers
- Ensure Storing of samples is done according to specifications
- Ensure Effective determination of sieve sizing on samples
- Ensure Effective determination of moisture content
- Perform analyses on geological samples when required
- Ensure detailed traceable records of all test work done
- Ensure daily pre-use checklists is done before operating moving machinery and report sub-standard equipment immediately to ensure optimized functionality of all lab equipment at all times
- Perform administrative duties to ensure record accuracy and availability at all times
- Compile neat and accurate dispatch sheets, checklists and registers and ensure distribution according to organizational requirements
- Compile various production reports and ensure distribution according to organizational requirements.
- Adhere to quality requirements, verifications, calibrations, certifications of equipment
- Participation in Proficiency tests
- Regular Internal audits as per ISO/IEC 17025 guidelines
- Responsible for the maintenance and training of your shift in the use of QA documents
- Preparation of calibration standards
- Monitoring Quality related issues by means of LIMS
- Work towards a Technical Signature (when applicable)
