Background
The Social Media Officer: TikTok YouTube and short format video will help grow WWF South Africa’s presence on TikTok and other emerging video platforms. This role is focused on creating short-form, youth-focused content that is socially relevant, platform-native, and aligned with WWF’s brand and environmental goals. The role includes content ideation, scripting, filming, editing, and being a potential on-screen presence for the organisation. Experience in science or environmental communication is a strong advantage.
Minimum Requirements
- A relevant diploma or degree in media, communication, film, digital marketing, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience creating content for TikTok or similar short-form video platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to create video content that drives engagement, ideally for brands or causes.
- Experience in working with influencers or content creators is a plus.
- Experience in environmental or science communication is desirable but not required.
- Proficient in using TikTok and Instagram Reels natively, as well as video editing tools.
- Strong copywriting and storytelling skills for social media.
- Comfortable with camera work – both behind and in front of the lens.
- Basic knowledge of social media analytics and tools (e.g., TikTok analytics, Meta Business Suite).
- Creative thinker with a strong grasp of internet culture and Gen Z online behaviours.
- Confident, agile, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Passion for nature, sustainability, and making science accessible.
- Enthusiastic about WWF’s mission and values.
- Willingness to occasionally travel for shoots or WWF events.
- Open to testing, learning, and iterating content quickly.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and execute WWF South Africa’s TikTok and YouTube content strategy in support of Strategy 2030 and in collaboration with the rest of the digital, marketing and communications teams.
- Produce engaging, informative, and creative short-form video content that resonates with WWF audiences – youth in particular.
- Stay on top of TikTok and YouTube trends, challenges, memes, and best practices, and identify opportunities to apply them to WWF’s mission.
- Serve as an on-screen presenter or coordinate with internal/external faces to represent WWF in TikTok content, as required.
- Assist with editing and repurposing TikTok content for Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, and other short-form platforms.
- Track analytics and performance metrics and adapt content based on insights.
- Align closely with the marketing objectives of WWF in order to build both youth constituency and to attract potential future donors
- Collaborate with environmental programme staff and other content specialists to translate complex topics into fun, digestible content.
- Monitor comments and feedback on videos, helping build community and engagement on the platform. (working with the social media officer)
- Support the broader content team with campaign ideation and youth-focused storytelling when needed.
