POSITION: Supervisor Engineering Electrical
JOB GRADING: C-Upper
DEPARTMENT: Metallugical Plant
SITE: South Deep Gold Mine
The Supervisor Engineering Electrical will be responsible for ensuring the maintenance and reliability of plant equipment in line with site standards and manufacturer specifications. This includes overseeing preventative maintenance, addressing equipment failures, driving quality improvement initiatives, fostering effective team management and controlling the section's budget to enhance operational efficiency and equipment performance.
Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 12 qualification or equivalent
- Relevant Trade Test certificate
- Supervisory (Foreman) Certificate
- Medium Voltage (MV) Certificate
- Minimum 5 years’ working experience in a Metallurgical Plant with at least 5 years’ experience on a Supervisory level
- Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment
Key Competencies:
- Proven safety leadership capability with established safety campaign delivery record
- Accomplished frontline team and people leader with advanced inter and intra-team collaboration
- Effective communicator with sound spoken and written English communication skills
- Proven track record of applying initiative, being a self-starter and work independently
- Advanced knowledge of mills, pumps, kilns, gearboxes, thickeners, and conveyor belt maintenance
- Advanced knowledge of chemicals and their risk and hazards during maintenance i.e. cyanide, caustic, lime, hydrochloric acid, etc
- Knowledge of Backfill & Gold Plant operations and maintenance requirements
- Knowledge of tailings storage facilities operations and maintenance requirements
- Knowledge and experience of Electrical installations in general
- Knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act as well as the Minerals Act
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure the Health and Safety of self and team members by applying relevant standards and procedures in the planning and execution of operational activities
- Contribute to the culture of Zero Harm by participating in and contributing to operational safety campaigns, applying relevant legislative, operational and safe work standards and regulations and, instituting and monitoring appropriate remedial actions as required
- Maintain effective people management practices by ensuring that team roles and competencies are clearly defined, and that effective team delivery is maintained through managing workload, assigning tasks and reviewing/ recognising outputs of team members
- Partner with Planned Maintenance and Asset Management teams to refine, implement and execute equipment-specific planned and preventative maintenance programmes and tactics
- Ensure the maintenance of plant equipment adheres to site-specific standards and manufacturer specifications
- Monitor and manage pre-mature failures on operational equipment, ensuring timely intervention to minimize downtime and disruptions
- Monitor quality repairs, ensuring compliance with quality standards and taking remedial action as required
- Conduct quality inspections and compile remedial actions of Plant equipment to ensure continuous availability
- Identify, initiate, and implement projects to enhance operational efficiencies and equipment reliability, fostering a culture of continuous improvement
- Control and management of section financial budget
