Job Description
As the Technician Superintendent you will be required to ensure compliance to the applicable standards and procedures pertaining to instrumentation; support the operation on matters pertaining to software and field instrumentation; provide assistance and guidance on new technologies in the processing plant at one of our flagships underground mechanised operations, Zibulo Colliery.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Managerial and Advisory Authority in ensuring we conform to the best engineering practices, implementation and adherence to Thungela standards and procedures and utilise the latest technology in the Control and Instrumentation field
- Managerial Authority and Direct Responsibility in building and maintaining internal and external stakeholder relationships ensuring that all stakeholders are kept up to date
- Managerial Authority in ensuring effective and efficient Investigation of stoppages and failures of equipment at the processing plant including incident investigations and conducting instrumentation audits
- Advisory Authority in providing assistance, guidance and advice to the processing plant operations on issues pertaining to the replacement and upgrading of equipment for the operation as well as the breakdown and repair of control equipment
- Auditing Authority in conducting C & I audit on processing plant equipment, standards, back up procedures, programmes, storage, and networks and ensure that Thungela standards are adhered to at the operation
- Managerial and Advisory Authority in effective People management ensuring that roles are well defined and clarified and that competencies and learning paths are developed to human capacity and capability
- Demonstrate effective financial control, budgeting and forecasting over the C&I department
Qualifications
- National Diploma/ Degree or N6 in Electrical Engineering (Light Current), Electronics Engineering or Process Instrumentation
- Registered as a Technologist with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) would be advantageous
Required Experience
- A minimum of 5 years post qualification instrumentation experience in a underground mining environment, with at least 2 years at a Supervisory or similar level experience is required.
- Experience in Siemens and/or Koyo Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) would be advantageous
