The Ward Hostess in a hospital setting in Hermanus will be responsible for providing exceptional food and beverage service to patients. This role involves ensuring that meals are delivered accurately and on time, assisting patients with menu selections, and maintaining high standards of hygiene and customer service. The ideal candidate will have a caring attitude, excellent communication skills, and attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Meal Service:
· Deliver meals to patients in a timely and courteous manner.
· Assist patients in making menu selections based on dietary requirements and preferences.
· Ensure that meal trays are set up attractively and correctly.
Communication:
· Act as a liaison between patients and the catering department to relay special requests or concerns.
· Communicate effectively with nursing staff regarding patient dietary needs and restrictions.
Quality Assurance:
· Check meal trays for accuracy and presentation before delivery.
· Ensure that all meals comply with dietary restrictions and nutritional guidelines.
· Address and resolve any issues or complaints from patients regarding meal service.
Hygiene and Safety:
· Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in the meal service area.
· Follow all hospital policies and procedures related to food safety and infection control.
· Ensure that all food handling and storage practices comply with health and safety regulations.
Administrative Duties:
· Record meal orders and any special dietary requirements accurately.
· Keep accurate records of patient meal deliveries and any feedback received.
· Assist with inventory management and ordering of supplies as needed.
Qualifications:
· Matric or equivalent certificate.
· Certificate in hospitality, food service, or a related field is a plus.
Experience:
· Previous experience in a food service/waiter/ customer service role, preferably in a healthcare setting.
· Experience working in a hospital or healthcare environment is advantageous.
