Job Description
Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Create a safety culture through productive and authorized operational systems/processes that allow all employees (including contracting partners) to provide their outputs in a risk-controlled environment.
- Ensure effective planning, scheduling and budgeting processes are in place to support disciplined and agile operational execution.
- Strategically leads near asset drilling, advanced infill drilling and ore control drilling.
- Be accountable for Mine Value Chain Reconciliation systems and reporting.
- Implement and manage effective Governance and Risk processes.
- Ensure implementation of effective geoscience systems and technical best practice.
- Collaborate and influence key internal stakeholders (corporate, mining operations) to support the identification and execution of operational geoscience.
- Facilitate Execution: Investigation and geological analysis of major FOG’s especially Fatalities; Delivery of up-to-date live TSD documents as and when required during the development of the Business Plan; Compilation of project phase geological reporting and documentation relating thereto; Provide technical guidance and coaching to junior staff.
- Implement a purpose-driven, high-performing culture that is aligned with the company values, is inclusive and promotes diversity, supports engagement and fosters continuous improvement to work processes.
- Ensure compliance with the discipline with external (legislative, regulatory, permitting) requirement.
This is at a band 6 Level and reporting to the Manager Technical Mining.
Qualifications
- BSc in Geology with Hons or Equivalent.
- Full accreditation from local professional governing body (i.e. SACNASP, SAIMM)
- Postgraduate qualification (Masters or equivalent) in Geosciences and/or MBA will be desirable
Experience, knowledge and skills
- 8 – 15 years working experience (extensive mining experience will be advantageous)
- Knowledge of safety policies, procedures and the important role of consistently demonstrating required behaviours and championing safety values
- Demonstrable knowledge of mining geoscience practices within underground massive mining environment and ability to provide specific explanation about factors contributing to performance and gaps – especially in relation to Ore Control and Mine Value Chain Reconciliation.
- Expert understanding of bulk underground mining operation requirements for drilling, sampling, logging and assaying and related QAQC and data management practices.
- Expert level understanding of ore control systems, practices and processes in bulk underground operations.
- Experience with software packages (Datamine, Ore Controller, Blockbuster Bloy etc).) used in the construction of Ore Control models, delineation of mining volumes and definition of ore flow decisions.
- Knowledge of stockpiling strategies and material movement tracking systems and practices.
- Knowledge of geological and structural mapping methodologies and modelling.
- Understanding of primary mining and processing methods and the requirements of their integration with mining geosciences.
- Understanding of Geometallurgy approaches.
