Kumba Iron Ore
We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.
Job Description
-As Community Liaison Officer you will provide services as required and your responsibilities will include but not limited to:
- Manage a safe and healthy work environment where workers, external service providers, and contractors can deliver their outputs within a controlled risk environment.
- Coordinate public relations campaigns and Stakeholder events.
- Execute engagement in line with Community Engagement Plans.
- Oversee the Reporting and monitoring engagement.
- Ensure that you align engagements with compliance with Social Way.
- Act as a focal point of contact with the local communities and leaders/councillors to build effective communication, enhance relationships, and ensure high-quality community service to achieve the agreed upon goals.
- Continuously provide feedback to the mine on community concerns and priorities with the view to revising intervention strategies where necessary.
- Promote and coordinate grassroots marketing initiatives implemented and fostered by the mine.
- Monitor, coordinate, and communicate the strategic objectives of the business.
- Support the current public relations programs to educate community members about the projects and encourage active community participation and ownership in the sponsored sub-projects.
- Continuously seeks opportunities for self–development in the area of community work.
- Maintain feedback to the Mine on community concerns and priorities with a view to revising intervention strategies where necessary.
- Liaise and support the Strategic business-critical projects occurring in social surrounding areas.
- Maintain relationships with the community to keep them informed and obtain their preferences and consent to support the project.
- Schedule outreach meetings with local community members to discover their issues and concerns.
- Collaborate, manage and apply recommended processes to roll out community and Stakeholder Engagement Plans.
- Support social components of all work needed to achieve and maintain public awareness of the organisation’s activities favourably. Assist with risk mitigation to minimise threats (reputational damage) to the organisation.
This role is in the Corporate Affairs at a Band 7 level reporting to the Specialist Community Liaison.
- -Grade 12
- Higher National Certificate in Social Science: Development Studies, Public Administration or equivalent on NQF5.
- National Diploma in Social Science: Development Studies, Public Administration or equivalent (NQF6) is preferred.
- SA Drivers Licence Code B.
Experience
- 3-5 years of experience in community liaison, preferably in the mining environment.
- In-depth knowledge of local communities and cultures is crucial.
- Comprehensive understanding of identifying risks and opportunities and providing solutions through problem-solving skills and structured methodologies.
- Profound knowledge of establishing and nurturing business relationships.
- Extensive expertise in project management and resource management.
- Thorough understanding and proficiency in utilising project and resource management tools and techniques.
- Deep knowledge and adherence to standards and recommended practices.
