The purpose of the Producer role is to direct the assigned show and presenters in line with show and station strategy, collaborate with talent, and to strategically build and execute the show content plan across platforms in collaboration with the team.
The Producer is responsible for the end-to-end creative and operational delivery of an assigned show. Reporting to the Programming Manager, you will:
Shape and direct content : Conceptualise, plan and execute the show’s content roadmap—ensuring each segment aligns with the station’s strategy, brand voice and audience preferences.
Collaboration with on air talen t: Collaborate with presenters and other contributors to optimize performance, structure interviews, and refine on air delivery.
Drive multi platform execution : Work with the Programming, Digital and Commercial teams to adapt and extend show content across on air, online and social channels.
Collaborate and innovate : Partner with the Programming/Station Manager on audio quality, and new format ideas—using data and listener feedback to continuously evolve the show.
By combining creative direction, talent Collaboration and cross platform planning, the Producer delivers a cohesive, engaging experience that grows audience loyalty and advances the station’s goals.
Key performance areas
Content strategy and execution:
Conceptualise, plan and deliver daily show content aligned with station/show strategy and audience interests.
Source and book relevant guests; identify and prepare talk topics and audio/music elements.
Prepare accurate, error-free show running orders and production notes.
Direct live on-air content flow, provide feedback to presenters, and ensure technical elements are aligned with show objectives.
Liaise with Technical and Digital Producers to integrate digital elements and plan multi-platform execution.
Monitor and assess live content, social media trends, and listener feedback to inform real-time updates and future content plans.
Provide post-show feedback and collaborate with programming and digital teams to refine show output.
Commercial integration:
Collaborate with the commercial coordinator and CS team to execute promotions and branded content effectively and seamlessly.
Proactively identify and propose content opportunities that deliver commercial value.
Ensure competitions, sponsorships and client deliverables are flawlessly implemented and aligned with strategic content goals.
Maintain consistent communication with Programme Manager and CS teams to align on objectives.
Administration and collaboration:
Collaborate with the Commercial Coordinator and CS team to execute promotions and branded content effectively and seamlessly.
Proactively identify and propose content opportunities that deliver commercial value.
Ensure competitions, sponsorships and client deliverables are flawlessly implemented and aligned with strategic content goals.
Maintain consistent communication with Programme Manager and CS teams to align on objectives.
Minimum required qualification:
Relevant tertiary qualification
Qualifications considered advantageous:
Post-graduate qualification or talent management experience
Minimum years of experience:
Three years’ experience in radio or a related field
Additional role requirements:
Willingness to travel as required
Deep understanding of studio operations, including console operation and playout systems
Proficiency with broadcast tools (e.g., Phonebox, Prizes system, SMS line)
Experience with industry-standard photo, audio, and video editing software
Comfortable troubleshooting technical issues in real time
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Rapid learner of digital platforms (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, Omny)
Strong ability to drive innovation and conceptualize engaging show content
Talent for identifying timely and relevant topics aligned with station strategy
Passion for building media properties that grow and engage audiences
Proven leadership and talent management experience
Ability to motivate and coach on air talent and production teams
Skill in facilitating two way and group communication
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal presence—assertive yet collaborative
Built network of contacts within the media and entertainment industry
Good knowledge of Talk radio formats
Solid understanding of the South African and regional radio markets
Extensive current affairs knowledge
Exceptional organizational skills and acute attention to detail
