Job Purpose
The External Product Support Officer is a vital role within the Tools & Equipment Department, responsible for providing technical and
administrative support related to product management, sales, and customer service.
Reporting to the Sales Manager, the Product Support Officer plays a pivotal role in developing and growing the sales and market share in the
Power Tool, Pneumatic Tool and Abrasive markets by engaging with BMG branches, their distributors and Customers.
The role will encompass, but not be limited to the market development and support of:
All Tool & Equipment Product Lines, directly and indirectly with existing and prospective customers.
This includes branch assisted calls as well as cold calling, market research, sales, sales projections, stock forecasting & profiling.
The incumbent will need to demonstrate a knowledge of the products associated within the tool and equipment sales environment; however,
preference in this role will be given to those who demonstrate an understanding and knowledge of Power Tools, Pneumatic Tools and Abrasive
products.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Represent the company in all forms of communication, maintaining good working relationships and networks with internal and external stakeholders, external suppliers, and clients.
- Respond to and follow up on all enquiries by email, telephone and personal visits as required.
- Responsibility for building and maintaining positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrate a strong customer service focus and quality communication, in all interactions with key stakeholders and external contacts.
- Manage the market development of Power Tools & Abrasive product sales to meet budget targets per region and branch.
- Develop and execute sales strategies to achieve sales objectives
- Co-ordinate market research activities to understand customer needs, preferences, and market trends.
- Utilize market insights to develop sales projections, budgets, and promotional campaigns
- Identify potential markets for new products and assess market demand and product succession.
- Collaborate with Management, Suppliers and Marketing teams to introduce, launch and promote new products to the market
- Provide technical support to customers to ensure fit for purpose and customer satisfaction thereby maintain high barriers of entry for competitors.
- Monitor stock levels and prepare stock re-order proposals for the group.
- Define stock holding models for efficient inventory management per region
- Expand and maintain relationships with internal and external customers as well as suppliers
- Identify and pursue sales opportunities across all product categories.
- Engage in approximately 80% travel within the region for customer visits and market activities.
- Spend the remaining 20% of time in the office for administrative tasks and coordination
Minimum Requirements:
- Matric/ National Certificate NQF 4
- Sales management, Key account management or similar qualification would be advantageous
- Proven experience (5 years) in technical product sales, product management, or related roles, preferably in the industrial or engineering sector.
- Strong technical understanding of Power Tools, Pneumatic Tools and Abrasive Products.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to analyse sales trends, market data and financial sales statistics.
- Ability to travel extensively within the Southern Africa region and occasionally outside the region as needed.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other ERP and CRM products.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel
