Field Testing Breeding Technical Trainee X2
Job Purpose:
- This trainees offers a unique opportunity to gain experience in plant breeding operations and to gain initial experience in practical field trials with an international seed company.
- This program is highly suitable for students who would like to follow a career in agronomic research and crop production.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Participate in all aspects of seed preparation, planting, harvesting and data collection.
- Perform computer-related activities, including handheld data collection, data management and providing support for all day-to-day activities.
- Coordinate and assist in all seed lab operations including seed shelling, packaging, treating and packet arrangement.
- Coordinate and assist with all field operations including machine planting yield trial plots, nurseries, pollinations, data collection and machine harvesting of yield trial plots.
- Lead field teams and assist with timely and accurate data collection from research plots.
- Assist in implementation of site safety programs to ensure a safe work environment.
- Actively participate in the evaluation and implementation of new technologies.
- Communicates with farmers to coordinate off-station trials.
- 50% of responsibilities are off-site field related activities/Traveling.
Qualifications and Competencies:
- National Diploma with appropriate experience in the discipline
- Basic knowledge of crop production, farming practices and farm equipment operation
- Knowledge of mobile data collection an advantage
