The Role
We are looking for a Financial Accountant to provide support to the finance department in our Sandton, Johannesburg office. You will manage daily accounting tasks and be part of a team of 7 finance staff working to maintain order and transparency for the company’s finances. As a Financial Accountant in our Finance team in South Africa you will be facilitating various aspects of the daily operations.
Your Main Responsibilities and Duties will Include
- Support month-end and year-end financial reporting processes in line with Group deadlines
- Coordinate the weekly and monthly payment processes for non-trade suppliers
- Weekly processing of expenses and general payments
- Maintaining fixed asset registers
- Intercompany accounting and reconciliations
- General ledger reconciliations
- Backup and support for all Finance functions and processes undertaken within team, supplier payables, employee T&E audits, foreign currency payments, banking & bank reconciliations, insurer reconciliations, etc
- Supplier reconciliations and updates, managing statement enquiries from internal and external sources
- Conduct process reviews with local management and recommend changes to improve efficiencies office
- Data analysis to include daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and ad-hoc reporting requirements. Identify supplier spend and engage with business units/vendors to negotiate improved terms of trade
- Maintain instruction manuals for internal finance processes and procedures
- Engage with Auditors during the audit to provide information and respond to audit queries
- Develop a good understanding and working knowledge of various company systems
- Assist with systems upgrades, changes to processes and liaise with Business Units and support users impacted by change
- Manage special projects for the department
- Delivering excellent service for internal customers.
- Updating key data and information daily to comply with agreed Service Levels
- Conduct audit and accuracy checks on a regular basis
- Work with colleagues to ensure that all aspects of the role are completed daily. Sharing ideas and knowledge with colleagues
- Delivering whilst being compliant with WTW procedures and external (FSCA) regulations.
The Requirements
- Completed B.Com in Accounting or a similar qualification, including Accounts 3
- Completed accredited articles with a small or medium-sized auditing firm
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, with intermediate Excel skills
- Excellent customer service and organisational abilities
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Self-motivated, reliable, and adaptable in approach to work
- Proven ability to prioritise tasks based on urgency and meet deadlines without compromising quality
- Confident in working directly with all areas of the business to resolve accounting queries
- Effective teamwork and collaboration skills
