Position: Griller (Hot Kitchen Section)

We are looking for a strong and experienced Griller to join our team in the Hot Kitchen section of a busy, upmarket restaurant based in Cape Town City Centre. The ideal candidate must thrive under pressure, maintain the highest standards of food quality and presentation, and demonstrate strong leadership within the kitchen team.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Lead and support the Hot Kitchen section during busy service periods.
- Maintain composure and efficiency in a high-pressure environment.
- Execute daily food preparation and duties as assigned by supervisors.
- Follow guidance from senior chefs and contribute to the seamless running of the kitchen.
- Estimate daily production needs and ensure all food meets the restaurant's quality standards.
- Ensure proper food presentation, preparation, and production at all times.
- Maintain exceptional guest satisfaction while controlling food costs and operations.
- Adhere to all hygiene, safety, and sanitation standards in line with food handling protocols.
- Maintain awareness of all menu items, recipes, and plating techniques.
- Monitor equipment functionality and report any malfunctions promptly.
- Encourage a secure, respectful, and positive work environment through clear communication.
- Be personally responsible for hygiene and cleanliness on and off duty.
- Train and guide junior staff, setting a professional example in both work ethic and standards.
- Monitor food expiry dates and ensure proper storage procedures.
- Consult daily with the Senior Chef regarding kitchen requirements, functions, or last-minute events.
- Provide daily feedback and flag any operational issues to management.
- Uphold the restaurant’s quality control and service standards.
- Perform any additional duties as required by management.
Requirements:
- Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in a similar role within a high-volume kitchen.
- Solid knowledge of grilling techniques and hot kitchen operations.
- Strong organizational, multitasking, and communication skills.
- Ability to work day shifts, night shifts, and double shifts as required.
- Committed to maintaining top-tier food quality and cleanliness standards.
