Role Description: Hot Deli Specialist
The Hot Deli Specialist Manager is responsible for the overall performance and daily operations of the hot deli department. This includes managing food preparation and presentation, ensuring superior customer service, maintaining food safety and hygiene standards, and maximizing sales and profitability. The manager will lead a team of deli staff, drive efficiency, and foster a positive work environment. This is a hands-on leadership role that requires both operational and strategic capabilities to ensure the deli functions smoothly and meets its performance goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise and participate in the preparation and service of hot deli foods
Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and sanitation regulations at all times
Manage inventory, conduct stock counts, and maintain accurate records of food usage and waste
Control department costs and optimize profitability through effective pricing and wastage control
Lead, train, and schedule deli staff to maintain a high level of performance and customer service
Create a warm and welcoming customer experience through quality service and attractive product presentation
Collaborate with store and regional management to implement promotional strategies and meet sales targets
Monitor and manage supplier deliveries and stock replenishment
Enforce health and safety protocols and perform regular compliance checks
Qualifications & Skills:
Minimum Requirements:
Proven experience (3+ years) in a deli, food service, or kitchen management role
Strong knowledge of hot food preparation, food presentation, and customer-facing service
Demonstrated leadership and team management abilities
Proficiency in inventory control, stock management, and sales reporting
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays
Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
Familiarity with food cost control, margin management, and supplier coordination
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification in Food Safety, Health & Hygiene (e.g., HACCP or equivalent)
Experience using POS and back-office systems for stock and sales tracking
Relevant tertiary qualification in hospitality, culinary arts, or retail management
