The purpose of the IP Officer role is to support the effective identification, protection, and management of intellectual property generated through publicly funded research at CPUT. The incumbent will coordinate the disclosure process, maintain accurate IP records, assist in IP protection filings, and ensure compliance with institutional policies and national legislation such as the IPR Act (51 of 2008). As a key operational role within the TTO, the IP Officer facilitates engagement between researchers, legal advisors, and external service providers, contributing to the efficient translation of research outputs into valuable intellectual assets that advance innovation, commercialisation, and socio-economic impact.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Law, Engineering, or related field (NQF 8).
- Paralegal certification or IP management training advantageous.
- 1–3 years experience in an IP, legal, research support, or TTO environment.
