Rhenish Primary School seeks to appoint an Intermediate/Senior Phase Teacher (SGB appointment)

The successful candidate should have a vibrant, dynamic personality, bring warmth and excitement to the classroom and have a love for seeing children thrive in all aspects of school life.

The following competencies are essential in the candidate we seek:

  • Excellent administrative, organisational and time-management skills
  • Strong English Home Language verbal and written communication skills to effectively liaise with children, teachers, parents and visitors
  • A strong understanding of curriculum requirements of the Intermediate Phase across multiple subject and grade areas and in particular English as a home language
  • An innovative approach to teaching the 21st Century Child, including the use of IT in the classroom
  • Self-motivated, energetic and reliable
  • Work as part of a team with other staff and management
  • A strong understanding of the diverse nature of the pupils within your care
  • Capable of coaching a wide variety of sports and to be actively involved in the extra-curricular program of the school - experience and knowledge in coaching boys’ sport will be advantageous
  • A minimum of 7 years’ experience in the same/a similar type of position and environment.
  • Ambition to serve in a variety of leadership roles within the school
  • Previous experience as a Subject Head or Grade Head
  • Experience in teaching Social Sciences: Geography and History in the Intermediate and Senior Phase
  • Fully support the ethos and values of the school which includes accountability, Belonging, Community, Curiosity, perseverance and respect.
  • A teaching qualification or a recognised degree/diploma appropriate to the position.
  • SACE registration and a valid police clearance certificate

Duties and Responsibilities

Preparation

  • Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activites that facilitate active learning experiences
  • Develop schems of work and lesson plans – termly, yearly and weekly
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities
  • Prepare classroom for class activities
  • Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities
  • Identify and select different instructional resources and methods to meet students varying needs

Delivery

  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment
  • Use relevant technology to support instruction

Assessment

  • Observe and evaluate students performance and development
  • Assign and grade class work, homework, tests and assigments
  • Provide appropriate feedback on work
  • Encourage and monitor the progress on individual students

Administration

  • Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development
  • Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws and school regulations
  • Prepare required reports on students and activities
  • Participate in department and school meetings, parent meetings
  • Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs

Discipline

  • Manage student behaviour in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures
  • Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school
  • Apply appropriate disciplinary measures where necessary

Extra curriculur

  • Participate in extra curricular activities such as social activities, sporting activities, clubs and student organisations

Professional Development

  • Keep up to date with developments in subject area, teaching resources and methods and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities
