The Department of Fashion and Textiles invites applications for a Lecturer position. We seek an individual with a strong academic background and industry experience to contribute to our teaching, research, and curriculum development. The successful candidate will also be expected to engage in interdisciplinary teaching and learning activities, contribute to faculty committees, and participate in community engagement initiatives.
Minimum Requirements:
- A Master’s degree in Fashion Design, Clothing Management or Consumer Science. However, a PhD qualification or registration for a PhD would advantageous.
- 3 years teaching experience with specialisation in Lectra Software (Modaris & Diamino) in Fashion Design or Clothing within a tertiary education environment.
Additional requirements
- Ability to lecture both theory and practical modules in Fashion Design.
- Specific strengths in Pattern and Garment Technology, with expertise in Lingerie, Corsetry, Men’s and Ladies’ Casual Wear.
- Competence in Learning Management Systems for online teaching and learning.
- Engagement in interdisciplinary teaching and learning activities.
- Evidence of community engagement (advantageous).
- Industry experience in fashion design, garment technology, or related fields (advantageous).
- Preparedness to present a research paper at a local conference within the first two years of employment.
- A portfolio of evidence showcasing expertise in areas of specialisation (advantageous).
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach, assess, and moderate coursework at Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Post Graduate Diploma, and MAA levels.
- Contribute to curriculum development for Extended, Advanced, and Professional levels.
- Engage in interdisciplinary teaching and learning activities.
- Participate in faculty and departmental committees, faculty meetings, and advisory board meetings.
- Engage in community engagement projects aligned with the university’s mission.
- Conduct research, supervision, and academic development.
- Perform administrative duties related to teaching, learning, and assessment.
