LECTURER

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Teaching and curriculum development at both undergraduate and postgraduate level in Social Anthropology;
- The supervision of postgraduate students;
- Research at an internationally competitive level;
- Academic administration and other duties as determined by the Head of Department;
- Participation in the Department’s strategic initiatives relating to teaching, research, community engagement, and fundraising.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- A doctoral degree in Social Anthropology, or significant progress towards completion of the doctoral degree;
- Peer-reviewed publications in accredited journals;
- Evidence of Honours student supervision;
- Evidence of teaching experience at tertiary level.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
- Competency in ethnographic and empirical field research methods and skills;
- Language and communication skills appropriate to the role
- Experience in conducting independent research;
- Good interpersonal and mentoring skills
- Computer literacy and proficienc appropriate to the role.
ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
We strongly encourage applicants with expertise in Environmental Anthropology, Organisational Anthropology, Anthropology of Technology, or Anthropology of Science to apply.
The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
