ROLE DESCRIPTION
The Organising Marketing Officer (OMO) plays a crucial role in the growth and sustainability of the Public Servants Association (PSA) by driving member recruitment, retention, and engagement. Reporting to the Provincial Manager, the OMO is responsible for implementing effective strategies that support membership expansion and the development of strong PSA structures across the province. This role involves direct interaction with members, shop stewards, and business partners to provide valuable services, ensure member satisfaction, and foster lasting relationships. The OMO is also instrumental in organising and facilitating training programs for shop stewards, managing liaison visits, and supporting collective bargaining efforts. With a focus on continuous improvement, the OMO ensures that all PSA services and initiatives align with the organisation's strategic goals, enhancing the PSA's presence and influence within the public service sector.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education
- National Diploma in Labour Relations, Human Resources, Marketing or related field
- A valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel extensively within the province
Work experience
- At least 3 years’ experience in recruitment, membership servicing, or related roles within a union, association, or similar environment.
- Experience in dealing with members, liaising with various stakeholders, and managing logistics related to outreach programs.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES
Technical Skills
- Membership Management: Proficiency in managing membership databases, ensuring accurate records of member details, statuses, and communications.
- Report Writing: Strong ability to compile clear, detailed reports on recruitment, retention, and liaison activities for internal stakeholders.
- Budgeting and Financial Management: Ability to create and manage budgets for liaison activities, ensuring that resources are used efficiently and activities remain within financial constraints.
- Marketing and Promotion: Knowledge of marketing techniques for distributing promotional materials, developing campaigns, and driving member engagement.
- Data Analysis and Reporting: Ability to collect and analyse data on membership statistics, recruitment success, and retention, providing insights for improvement
- Technology Proficiency: Comfortable using various software tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, CRM systems, and other reporting tools) to track member information, create reports, and communicate effectively
Industry Specific Skills
- Labour Relations Knowledge: Familiarity with labour laws, collective bargaining processes, and PSA-specific policies governing service conditions and member rights.
- Union Structure Understanding: Deep understanding of union structures, operations, and the role of shop stewards in recruitment and engagement.
- Public Sector Experience: Understanding the operations and policies of the public sector and various government departments to effectively target recruitment and support PSA members
- Membership Engagement: Knowledge of strategies to foster member engagement, including how to address issues that could lead to retention problems and how to advocate for members
- Collective Bargaining Understanding: Awareness of collective bargaining, dispute resolution, and workplace issues relevant to public sector employees.
- Understanding of PSA Benefits and Services: A solid understanding of the benefits, services, and advantages the PSA offers to members, ensuring accurate information is shared.
