- Write publications/present research outcomes and compile popular publications and newsletters.
- The incumbent will also be required to be involved in general laboratory operations and the training and supervision of students.
- Maintain genetic material for conservation purposes (seed collection and maintenance).
- Assist in sample collection (soil, plants and seeds), preparation and data analysis.
- Liaise with growers, industry technical officers, national and provincial government.
- Assist in community engagement and surveys.
- Participate in sample collection and data capturing and adhere to proper data quality control protocols.
- Conducts regular crop cultivation and management in the field and in the controlled environment.
- PhD in Plant Biotechnology or Biological/Life/Natural Sciences, obtained within the last five years.
- Technical knowledge of glasshouse/nursery management.
- Technical knowledge of crop management.
- Basic understanding of genetic resources management and the various laws governing it.
- Knowledge of morphological characterisation of plants according to IPGRI descriptors.
- Demonstrable experience with molecular biology techniques (e.g.) RT-qPCR, Next Generation Sequencing.
- Proven history of mentoring and supervising/co-supervising students will be an added advantage.
- Willingness to travel in and outside South Africa.
- Valid driver’s license.
