Job Description
Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Management of all Resource Drilling and Sampling activities and providing Safety Oversight for all Ore Control and Geoscience related activities.
- Enforce compliance with Valterra Standards in Exploration, Grade Control drilling and Ore Control to minimize risk.
- Assistance with Hydrogeology and Geotechnical work programs as and when required by Business.
- Adherence to geological standards (SAMREC, Group Governance, site specific standards).
- Establishing and maintaining geological standards and QAQC practices with emphasis on Drilling, Sampling as well as Ore control activities.
- Implementing/updating effective controls and procedures relating to Exploration drilling, Grade Control and Reconciliation.
- Managing optimum exposure of PGE mineralization.
- Support Management and provide recommendations on Best Practice Drilling and Ore Extraction principles.
- Execute in-pit mapping, ensuring incorporation into the Structural models.
- Provide Geoscience input in Weekly, Monthly Planning meetings and all relevant mining departments.
- Compiling and designing reports / plans and sections appropriate to the Geology function.
- Advise ore body related risks for effective mine design and planning.
- Recommending action plans around geological disturbances.
- Supporting training and development requirements of relevant staff.
- Validate all acquired data and derived results.
- Ensure compliance with system requirements, mapping, drilling and sampling coverage to enable safe and profitable mining activities.
- Participation in Geo-metallurgy initiatives and projects.
- Maintain and improve geology systems and reporting practices.
- Training and coaching of Graduate Geologists, Geology Technicians and Sampling staff.
- Legal appointment holder for grade control and resource drilling activities.
This role is at a Band 7 level reporting to the Pit Geologist.
Qualifications
- Appropriate Tertiary Geology qualification (BSc. or BTech in Geology as a minimum)
Experience, Knowledge and Skills
- 3- 5 years’ experience in Post qualification mining geology
- At least 3 years’ experience in Bushveld and platinum geology
- Evaluation experience will be an advantageous
- Sound knowledge pertaining to In-pit geology and mining
- Sound knowledge pertaining to applicable legislation (Legal, Health and safety)
- Sound knowledge pertaining to Occupational Hygiene principles
- Computer literate: MS Office and discipline specific software (Datamine, Sable and Acquire)
