The Faculty of Education Institute for Post-School Studies has a rich history of engaging with the key issues facing South African post-school education and training, and offers innovative, research-based postgraduate degree programmes in education. Our teaching and research interests cut across the interdisciplinary fields of history and philosophy of education, and draw on UWC's previous involvement in Education Policy Unit initiatives as well as research on higher education in Africa and beyond. We aim to strengthen the research profession by furthering studies in Higher Education within a changing national and international environment.
The Institute for Post-School Studies offers postgraduate programmes in Adult and Community Education and Training (ACET), Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Higher Education Studies. The Institute for Post-School Studies invites applications from suitably qualified applicants for the post of Associate Professor in Higher Education Studies.
Role Clarification & Key Performance Areas
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key performance areas:
- Facilitate learning and teaching at postgraduate level in Higher Education Studies
- Provide academic leadership and administration
- Undertake curriculum development and assessment
- Conduct research and publish in Higher Education Studies
- Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate supervision
- Participate in community engagement and outreach projects
- Responsible for mentoring staff in teaching and research
- Serve on relevant Institute and Faculty committees.
- A relevant PhD associated with Higher Education Studies
- Demonstrated experience in facilitating learning and teaching at postgraduate levels
- A strong research and academic publications record relevant to Higher Education Studies in the field of education
- An excellent record of successful postgraduate supervision
- Experience in Higher Education and curriculum transformation
- Experience in leading or participating in and securing research funding for large-scale research projects
Added Advantages:
- An NRF rating is a strong recommendation
- Experience in Higher Education postgraduate studies

- Ability to work as a senior member of a professional department within the Faculty of Education
