The Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that educate students across multiple disciplines, including Accounting, Finance, Management, Economics, Industrial Psychology (Human Resources Management), Information Systems, Institute for Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies (PLAAS), Institute for Social Development, Political Studies, School of Government (including Public Administration) and the Academic Literacies Progamme.
The Department of Information Systems takes pride in developing highly qualified professionals and researchers in Information Systems and related fields. Given the strategic thrust of UWC, the Department is currently experiencing growth and is thus inviting appropriately qualified and experienced persons to join its ranks. The successful candidate will join a dynamic and supportive Department and Faculty that is dedicated to teaching, research and community engagement, as well as to the overall student experience. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and willing to make a significant contribution to the Department’s academic programmes and its research agenda.
The successful candidate for Associate Professor in the Department of Information Systems will be responsible for the following key performance areas:
- Facilitate learning and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Information Systems programmes
- Conduct research and publish in mutually agreed upon Information Systems-related foci
- Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate supervision
- Provide academic leadership and administration
- Undertake curriculum development and assessment
- Undertake community engagement and outreach
- Identify and pursue collaborative networks and research partnerships to advance the academic project
- Undertake any other duties as may be assigned by the Departmental Chairperson.
- A PhD degree or equivalent in Information Systems, Computer Science or a closely related discipline
- Demonstrated experience in facilitating learning at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Information Systems
- Relevant industry or teaching experience in one or more of the following areas: Data Analytics, Software Development, Database Design
- A track record of quality peer-reviewed publications in Information Systems and related knowledge areas
- A record of successfully supervising postgraduate students
- The integration of community engagement for societal impact with learning and teaching and/or research
- Evidence of expertise, national standing, and preferably an international presence in the Information Systems or associated fraternities.
