Job Summary
The Railway Technologist will create, modify, and review technical drawings and 3D models using software like AutoCAD. You’ll work closely with engineers or designers to turn concepts into precise, production-ready plans for infrastructure projects such as, but not limited to, railway lines, stormwater systems, culverts, sewage systems, and roads.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Where applicable, directs and oversees junior or subordinate staff members in the execution of tasks and assignments on projects.
Duties/Responsibilities
· Drafting & Design – Converting sketches, specifications, or verbal instructions into accurate 2D/3D drawings.
· Revisions & Updates – Making adjustments based on feedback, design changes, or client requests.
· Quality Checks – Ensuring drawings meet industry standards (e.g., dimensions, tolerances, materials).
· Collaboration – Coordinating with engineers and project teams to clarify requirements.
· File Management – Organizing and maintaining CAD files for easy access and version control.
· Problem-Solving – Identifying and resolving design inconsistencies or manufacturability issues.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Thorough understanding of civil engineering principles, practices, and tools.
- Proficient in computer-assisted design (CAD) and other design, data recording, and analyzation software.
- Thorough understanding of materials, methods, and tools involved in the construction or repair of railway infrastructure such as track buildings, bridges, roads, and other related structures.
- Thorough understanding of safety regulations related to assigned projects.
- Ability to identify and solve complex problems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to be both creative and analytical.
- Extremely detail-oriented and accurate.
Education and Experience
- Accredited Draughting qualification (e.g., Diploma/Certificate in CAD, Engineering Design, or equivalent).
- Worked on railway, roads, and stormwater drainage projects
