Job Purpose:
The Fitter is responsible for installing and maintaining engineering equipment in optimal working condition and ensuring the efficient, safe operation of machinery by setting and adjusting devices within allowed tolerances. This role also ensures that all work carried out on the premises complies with SABS codes and internal standards - whichever is more stringent - across all areas of engineering, quality, and safety, health & environment (SHE). Responsibilities include fault finding, attending to breakdowns, completing the necessary administrative tasks related to AMM, SHE, and RCA, and actively participating in new project installations.
Responsibilities:
Planned Maintenance, Condition Based Maintenance:
- Carry out the planned maintenance required on plant.
- Incumbent must be pro-active and prevent breakdowns on his/her patrols and shows initiative to continuously improve equipment performance.
- Install, service, repair and maintain existing and new equipment.
Safety Regulations, Breakdown Maintenance, Fault Finding and Repairs
- Follow up and recommend actions to overcome and improve problems encountered.
- Attend to mechanical faults and breakdowns in all areas of the factory.
- Analysing and investigating on reoccurring faults.
- Improve on functional ease of maintenance, cleaning, reliability of equipment
- Project Management
- Repairs must be carried out quickly (first time right) and efficiently.
- Maintain high standard of work.
- Ensure machine availability for production targets to be met.
- Undertakes to work shift, standby and overtime as per company requirements.
- Lockout and permit procedure to be used at all times when any person could be exposed to danger by the inadvertent starting of machinery.
- Ensure any dangerous conditions must be made safe immediately.
- Ensure that all work performed, and plant is performs to protect product safety at all times.
Line efficiency, WO completion rate, SHE audit requirements met:
- To correct errors on drawings and update drawings.
- Complete the necessary administrative tasks for AMM, SHE, Condition Monitoring (CDM) and Mission Directed Work Teams (MDWT).
- Actively involved in CDM and MDWT activities
- Interact with production people.
- Interact with suppliers.
- Interact with contractors
Legal Inspections:
- Carry out visual inspections and sign the appropriate legal registers of the following as per the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act:
o All types lifting equipment [slings, chain blocks, etc].
o Pressure vessels.
o All types of welding equipment [gas, argon, electrical, etc].
Requirements:
- Matric Certificate,
- Qualified with a Trade Test Certificate,
- N3 Certificate with Served Apprenticeship
- Own reliable transport
- Beneficial:
o Prior experience in a food manufacturing/retort environment is beneficial.
o Knowledge of food safety systems such as HACCP and GMP.
