Job Summary
The KYC Team Leader is responsible for leading a team of KYC & Verification Analysts to ensure the effective delivery of KYC processes, compliance with internal policies, and adherence to regulatory requirements. The role focuses on operational leadership, team management, quality assurance, and collaboration with key stakeholders to achieve service excellence and SLA compliance.
Key Duties and Responsibilities, including but not limited to:
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure overall adherence by respective KYC & Verification Analysts to the company’s internal AML/KYC policies and procedures (RMCP and supplementary policies).
- Support the KYC Department in ensuring that the organization complies with relevant KYC regulations through process development, policy implementation and continuous monitoring as required.
Risk Management
- Provide feedback and guidance to Analysts on outstanding CDD.
- Ensure deadlines are met, and that appropriate follow-ups and actions are taken in line with policy.
- Support ongoing monitoring activities for Low to Medium Risk accounts, ensuring
timeliness and accuracy and that analysts follow appropriate due diligence processes.
- Oversee the escalation process of possible High-Risk accounts to the EDD team.
Team Leadership
- Provide guidance and support to the KYC team to ensure operational effectiveness.
- Delegate daily, weekly, and monthly tasks within the KYC Team to ensure efficient workflows.
- Act as the first point of escalation for Analysts on operational and KYC-related queries and concerns.
- Conduct training sessions with Analysts with identified issues and implement ways to improve. Conduct training when altering a current process.
- Highlight development or areas of improvement within the KYC team as well as internal processes.
- Motivate, mentor, and lead the team to meet SLA and quality standards.
- Ensure leave management and scheduling are effectively managed within the HR system.
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and high-performance culture.
Reporting & Documentation
- Review the quality and performance of KYC & Verification Analysts and escalate areas of concern to senior management.
- Compile, analyze and share performance reports focusing on SLA adherence, productivity, and quality.
- Ensure proper maintenance of KYC documentation, dashboards, and records for audit purposes.
- Provide weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly reports highlighting trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
- Facilitate decision-making on non-standard issues where operational judgment is required.
Requirements
- Minimum of Matric or equivalent.
- Proven experience in KYC operations within the financial or insurance sector with at least 2+ years of leadership experience.
- Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) or Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) would be advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of AML/KYC regulations and their application in operational environments.
- Proficiency with database management and knowledge of managing KYC-related data.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to manage escalations effectively.
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality assurance.
