Operational Planning
- Align operational targets to business strategy
- Consider medium term (1- 2 years) implications of actions on the viability of the business from a more broad perspective
- Consider the impact of solutions on other areas of the business, as well as the interdependency of units
- Drive best practice, continuous improvement and innovation at process and procedure level within the Risk Management unit
- Construct, implement and fine-tune methods, processes and systems to enhance effectiveness and meet organisational goals
- Utilise appropriate models for analysing potential risks to the business, taking a 360 degree view of the organisations risk profile
- Consider local conditions, as well as competitor activity to create competitive advantage
- Give input into benchmarking local and international risk management best practices and strategies
- Manage resources (people, finances and products), taking local conditions into considerations
- Give input into the development of risk management policies and procedures
- Ensure implementation and maintenance of ERM policies and procedures
- Give input into the development of plans for the roll- out of Risk Management in conjunction with the Business Units, in alignment with the MTN SA Risk Management Framework

Enterprise Risk Management Implementation
- Utilise appropriate models for analysing potential risks to the business, taking a 360 degree view of the organisations risk profile
- Facilitate on-going enterprise-wide risk assessments and mitigation of risks and ownership in all Business Units and MTN subsidiaries, in line with the Group ERM Framework. This involves conducting interviews and workshops with Senior Management and documentation of risk registers and reports.
- Ensure that risk management system(tool) is implemented and fully utilised to automate the risk management process within MTN SA
- Ensure ongoing risk identification, assessment and reporting to the stakeholders
- Provide input into the development of procedures and processes for Crises Prevention and Management
- Ensure the implementation of procedures and processes for Crises Prevention and Management
- Ensure the development and implementation of a formally defined Project Risk Management framework
- Provide input into the insured and uninsured risks of the company
- Perform regular reviews of the risk processes followed by the business units and report on progress
- Perform in-depth evaluations on key risks within the organization
- Analyse and advise on costs associated with risk non-compliance maintenance and prevention
- Assess current and potential risks and assist business in developing prevention strategies and business continuity plans
- Design stress scenarios to measure the impacts of unusual market and operational conditions
- Monitor and report on exposures
- Support the ERM environment in aligning to other disciplines within Risk Management unit
- Ensure the ongoing implementation of Integrated Assurance within MTN SA
- Manage and ensure proper implementation of projects that are in-housed by Risk Management
Budget Management
- Provide input into forecasting, planning, and development of the budget for the unit
- Manage and optimise the budget, ensuring all expenditure is in line with the agreed budgets
- Monitor costs and determine initiatives to optimize resources
Reporting
- Ensure preparation of ERM reports to stakeholders when required (i.e. Risk exposure reports, Exco reports)
- Prepare all necessary reports required for MTN SA and Subsidiaries including Risk sub-committees of Board and Exco.
- Ensure that monthly Risk Champions meetings occur and key issues are acted upon
Training and Support
- Liaise constantly with Executive Management on various risk matters especially tracking ownership and mitigation of risk items identified
- Ensure that Risk Champions are trained and educated on the different aspects of risk management and liaise with them on an on-going basis regarding Enterprise Risk Management initiatives
- Provide training to management and staff, as required
Project Management
- Drive the implementation, tracking, monitoring and compliance of Projects
- Contract management in line with Procurement Policies
- Co-ordinate project reporting
- Ensure effective implementation of the integrated project management model

Business Analysis
- Perform MTN SA Business Analysis in line with the methodology and guidelines
- Determine, document, and review requirements for projects within the scope of the value stream or impacting processes and systems
- Design, analyse and document workflow and make appropriate recommendations that will positively impact operational effectiveness
- Identify Business Improvement and Optimisation opportunities that will result in improvement of process performance
- Ensure that benchmarking is conducted with other companies and organizations within and outside the industry.
- Construct business cases for initiations proposed by the business. Research and consider best practice, local conditions, trends, as well as competitor activity
- The ability to assess and quantify risks in various business processes, products, or investments. This may involve using risk assessment methodologies like Monte Carlo simulations, Value at Risk (VaR), stress testing, or scenario analysis.
Supervisory / Leadership / Managerial Complexity:
- Promote risk management competence throughout the organisation
- Liaise constantly with Senior Management within MTN on various risk matters especially tracking ownership and mitigation of risk items identified
- Train Risk Champions on the use of risk management tool, and liaise with them on an on-going basis
- Provide training to management and staff, as required
- Lead interactions with risk champions in the different Business Units in MTN SA who will have a dotted line reporting responsibility to this person
- Manage the delivery of you own portfolio of deliverables with the added responsibility of managing subordinates
- Interact with senior management in MTN SA, and obtain buy-in from people in the organisation regarding risk issues
- Leadership will entail influencing, coaching, education, guidance and performance monitoring of subordinates and risk champions to ensure ownership and implementation of risk management strategies
- Build professionalism, loyalty and commitment to the organisation
- Communicate actively and effectively resolving any potential conflicts that may arise in the organisation
- Display insight into leadership style and how it impacts on performance positively and negatively
- Have the self insight and flexibility to adapt to different situations
- Manage boundaries that separate units in order to optimise workflow

Role Complexity:
- Ad hoc project involvement
- Give professional advice or assist staff on an ad hoc requests related to enterprise risk management
- Attend ad hoc steering committees for various projects
- Attend ad hoc meetings on behalf of Senior Manager
- Attend project team meetings for various unrelated projects
- Buy-in from management
Education:
• 3 year Degree (preferably related to Risk Management)
- Professional qualification in Risk Management with a recognised Professional institution (CRM Prac, CRM Prof, CRMA, PRM, CRISC)
- Membership of a Professional body
- Advanced level proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required to support analytical work of the function.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in risk management, which must include the following:
- 5 years of conducting risk assessments, developing risk registers and compiling risk reports at strategic, functional and process level
- 5 years’ experience in supervising/managing others
- 3 years’ experience working in a large enterprise
- 5 years’ experience in writing written reports to senior management levels
- Advanced level proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and Word is required for report writing
