As a non-profit social enterprise, we create fun, localised, and multi-platform educational content that helps kids learn, and leverage their learning to change their lives. Ubongo reaches over 27 million kids across Africa through accessible technologies like TV, radio, and mobile phones. Our show’s Ubongo Kids, Akili and Me and Nuzo and Namia currently air in 23 countries across Africa in multiple languages.
Position Objective
We are hiring a Market Expansion Manager to join the Growth Department who will lead Ubongo’s efforts to grow and deepen its presence in priority markets. This role will lead Regional teams to execute audience growth, engagement, and market entry & expansion strategies informed by market research and organizational objectives.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Regional Team Leadership & Support
- Lead and mentor Regional team to deliver on audience growth and market expansion objectives.
- Review and approve market-specific annual and quarterly expansion plans. Provide guidance, resources, and training to regional teams.

Market Expansion & Reach Strategy Implementation
- Translate organizational growth goals into actionable expansion strategies tailored to each market.
- Integrate market research insights into decision-making and planning.
- Monitor implementation progress, address barriers, and ensure timely delivery of initiatives.
- Align expansion activities with brand positioning, marketing campaigns, and revenue objectives.
- Develop and lead in the implementation of our regional Distribution strategies
- Take the lead on Ubongo’s “Key Result” of reaching our target audience through the most appropriate/effective mix of distribution channels.
- Represent Ubongo at content markets and events.
- Support Regional managers to nurture relationships with partners
- Lead in partner stewardship management.
- Maintain and improve our content delivery systems in collaboration with our Digital Team and Regional Managers. Oversee the organization, updating and renewal of broadcast agreements as needed.
Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting
- Track market performance, audience growth, and retention against KPIs.
- Collect and organize viewership, listenership and engagement data
- Collect and organize data for our digital, non-broadcast content distribution
- Collect and organize data for our content distribution at the last mile
- With the support of MEL Manager and other relevant team members, analyze data and compile reports for internal and external use. Use data and feedback to refine market strategies and improve outcomes.

Education & Experience
- A Bachelor's Degree in mass communication,Marketing, Business Administration, Development Studies, journalism, broadcasting or related field (Master’s preferred)
- 5-7 years’ experience in market expansion, business development, or growth management, ideally in multi-country or multicultural environments.
- Demonstrated success in managing regional or country-level teams to deliver measurable growth outcomes.
- Strong understanding of audience analytics, market entry, and revenue generation strategies.
- Experience in cross-functional collaboration between marketing, research, and revenue teams. Experience working in the media and broadcasting industry. Specifically, preferred experience in content scheduling, acquisition, sales and management
Skills
- Extremely organized and independent, able to maintain clear documentation, manage content and filing systems, organize data, and ensure that all of this is easily accessible for Ubongo’s team and partners.
- Strategic planning and execution skills.
- Strong leadership and people management ability.
- Ability to interpret and apply market and audience research.
- A strong communicator with excellent written and spoken English. Knowledge of French is a plus– desired but not required!
- Data-driven decision-making approach.
- Passionate about working with people and keen to build relationships within Ubongo and with partners across the continent.
- A broadcast and digital all-rounder, conversant in files types, codecs and platforms; and quickly able to learn new.
- Flexible, High adaptability, results orientation and patience: able to collaborate and nurture relationships with everyone from upstart techies launching newfangled platforms to government TV broadcast
- Creative: able to think of new and exciting ways to broadcast content to millions more kids and caregivers.
- Eager to work in a team of talented people with different expertise, connected by a shared goal, to reach as many kids as possible with quality, entertaining and educational content! Ability to receive constructive criticism and use feedback to develop solutions
