PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To take charge of gangs, instructors, and trainees to mine a section of the workings of the mine in accordance with the Mine Health and Safety Act Regulation 8.1 for training purposes.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 12/ Std 10 is essential
- Permanent Blasting Certificate/Lev 3 Rock breaker qualification is essential
- Competent A & B is essential
- 12 months experience as Panel Leader/Miner is essential
- Perform basic firefighting and first aid
- Extinguish a fire by means of a portable fire extinguisher
- Apply all Competent A, B and Blasting activities in accordance with MHSA Regulations 14.1 (1), 14.1 (1) 5, 14.1 (7), 4.4 (1)
- Valid medical Certificate is essential or be medically fit to obtain such a certificate.
- Training qualifications will be an advantage.
COMPETENCIES:
- Safety Knowledge pertaining to basic health and safety principles in and around a workplace
- Basic understanding of the causes of falls of Ground (FOG), Symbolic signs, platinum Safety Rules
- Knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act, regulations and definitions and an understanding of legal terms and requirements related to rock breaking operations
- Knowledge of the most common harmful gases, vapours, and basic environmental factors of ventilating an underground working place.
- Understanding of the identification of and dealing with rock strata conditions
- Understanding of the importance of safe and correct marking of holes
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- Read and interpret the Business Plan and allocated resources accordingly
- Plan production/training targets and ensure measures to achieve production/training targets
- Receive and convey instructions from Training Management on work priorities
- Supervise crew responsible for installation and maintenance in designated area underground
- Plan, organise, lead and control activities in the mining operations and training process
- Mark shot and pilot holes for primary and secondary blasting in an underground working place
- Charge shot holes with primed explosives, install initiating systems used in blasting operations underground, store and issue explosives and accessories and destroy old explosives
- Support an underground working place by means of anchors, elongated support units and packs
- Transport material and equipment by means of a mono rope system
- Lead the team, plan, allocate and assess their work
- Coordinates, controls and ensures compliance within the ISO and SETA requirements.
- Effectively manages and monitors all HRD systems
