Mission
Purpose
To coordinate and manage the implementation of variation projects and wayleave activities across the Gautrain system by ensuring technical alignment, regulatory compliance, and stakeholder coordination. The role supports project delivery from planning through execution and handover, while also safeguarding infrastructure integrity by assessing, approving, and monitoring third-party wayleave applications.
Key Responsibilities
Project Implementation
- Manage the end-to-end implementation of Province Variation Notices (PVNs) and Concessionaire Variation Notices (CVNs) in accordance with the approved scope, schedule, and cost constraints.
- Compile detailed project technical specifications, bill of quantities (BOQs), and associated procurement documentation in line with business procedures and regulatory standards.
- Coordinate and liaise with internal departments (Maintenance, Operations, Safety, Engineering) and external stakeholders (Province, Concessionaire, Bombela Consortium) to ensure alignment and readiness for project execution.
- Monitor project milestones, budgets, risks, and resources throughout the project life cycle, ensuring timely delivery and quality outcomes.
- Conduct site inspections and technical audits to verify progress, workmanship, and compliance with approved specifications, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Prepare progress reports, highlight key risks, and recommend corrective actions where necessary.
Wayleave Management
- Review wayleave applications submitted by external entities to assess the potential impact on Gautrain infrastructure and operations.
- Evaluate technical drawings and construction proposals, identifying interface risks and recommending control measures for safe implementation.
- Draft technical responses with recommended conditions for approval or rejection of wayleave applications.
- Conduct site visits and inspections for all approved wayleaves to verify compliance with the recommended control measures.
- Escalate non-conformance or risks to infrastructure integrity and operational safety to relevant stakeholders and recommend mitigation actions.
Stakeholder & Interface Coordination
- Act as the central interface between the Operator and external authorities (e.g., GTIA, Municipalities), ensuring effective communication and alignment on active projects and wayleaves.
- Liaise with suppliers, consultants, and subcontractors for document control, scheduling, and compliance coordination.
- Engage with Line Manager on any project anomalies, hazards, or compliance risks.
Compliance, Quality & Handover
- Ensure all works comply with applicable health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
- Maintain accurate project records and documentation.
- Lead or support project handover processes, including site verification, final inspections, and readiness documentation.
- Promote continuous improvement and contribute to system and process enhancements within the Projects team.

Profile
- B. Tech in Engineering (Civil/Electrical/Project Management preferred).
- 5 years' experience in infrastructure project coordination or technical project management.
- Knowledge of project lifecycle (PMBOK or equivalent), variation management, and public transport systems.
- Familiarity with wayleave processes, local authority regulations, and railway operational environments will be advantageous.
Essential
