Minimum Requirements:
- Advanced Diploma/Postgraduate Diploma/Bachelor’s Degree/B Tech in Sound Engineering or equivalent.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience working with audio-visual equipment.
Additional recommendations:
- At least one year in a supervisory capacity
- Experience in working at higher education environment.
- Communication Skills – written/verbal/presentation in English
- Computer literate
- Knowledge of practicals and test equipment is essential
Summary of duties:
- Maintains fully functional laboratories so that all student practicals may be undertaken in a disciplined and effective manner.
- Controls the LAN, and access the Internet and the DUT intranet.
- Supervises student practicals in accordance with the requirements of academic staff.
- Trains students (and Lab. Assistants where such structure exist) in the safe and proper use of equipment and ensures students work in a safe and disciplined manner.
- Maintenance of laboratory equipment e.g. minor repairs, lubrication, etc. Where equipment requires major repairs, arrangements must be made to send it out for repairs
- Where an Open Laboratory exists the technician shall control the functioning of the Open Lab Sessions.
- Controls equipment issues and consumable stock usage and maintains up to date stock registry of consumables and equipment.
- Monitors consumables and equipment stocks and coordinates the purchase of consumables and capital items in accordance with laid down purchasing procedures and budgetary constraints.
- Procurement/Processing of purchase requisitions including sourcing of quotations.
- Researching and advising on relevant and suitable equipment to be procured to serve the departmental needs.
- General office technical support to staff members such as printers, computers, software etc.
