Bidvest Tank Terminals is looking to fill a SHE Officer position, to be based within the Durban Business Unit and reporting to the SHE Supervisor. The candidate must meet the following minimum criteria
Minimum Requirements
- Matric
- Diploma in Safety Management
- SAMTRAC
- 3 years’ experience in a similar role within the Chemical and Petro-chemical industry
Duties and Responsibilities
- Inspection of all firefighting and suppression equipment to ensure they comply with current fire safety legislation
- Direct and participate in PIMAD (fire evacuation drills) activities
- Supervise and perform salvage and overhaul operations
- Lead the terminal safety effort by liaising with staff, contractors, and transporters to ensure that all agreed SHE procedures are implemented
- Investigate and report on the cause of all incidents
- Conduct monthly site safety, health environmental self-assessment audits to evaluate compliance to ISO standards and legal requirements and issue reports
- Develop safe working procedures and recommend tasks which require planned job observations
- Monitor and measure environmental receptors e.g. effluent; air quality and participate in permit applications
- To conduct monthly housekeeping audits, issues detailed reports and ensure that the resulting CAPA information has been submitted as per target dates
- Ensure effective communication and awareness to the specific sites on issues relating to SHE by ensuring that toolbox talk topics are sent out to sites and evidence of submission of conducted safety talks is kept
- Ensure adherence to legal and regulatory standards and risk control measures by conducting scheduled inspections and assessments, any non-conformances/compliances are escalated
- Development of Construction EMP’s
- Controls hazardous chemical substances and maintains SDS database
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Knowledge of the application of the principles, procedures, techniques and equipment used on modern fire suppression and preventions
- Knowledge of Occupancy classifications, emergency planning and preparedness
- Ability to plan, organise, prioritise and multi-task
- Must be able to work under pressure
- Knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001
