Job Description
ABOUT ROLE:
We are seeking a candidate to create and enforce a culture of safety within our organization, jointly implement SHEQ programs, policies, and assessments to spearhead compliance with all local and regional health and safety regulations.
They may also review reports and findings to monitor performance and detect trends related to health and safety and Risk Management. The candidate should have experience in laboratory testing on products and audit compliance exposure.
DRIVING A CULTURE OF HEALTH & SAFETY:
- Perform incident investigations and assist in corrective actions.
- Conduct job hazard analysis, and recommend preventative/corrective action where EH&S hazards/risks exist.
- Interact with all departments to assist with EH&S issues
- Connect with the regional and local EHS team to understand corporate strategies and apply them on-site.
- Conduct training for all employees on EH&S programs
- Create standard operating procedures geared to achieve SHEQ goals and objectives.
- Maintain EH&S records
- Performs administrative duties for the EHS department including but not limited to general data entry and filing of training records, compliance documentation, and other EH&S records
- Develop and support implementation of various safety policies and programs
- Report and monitor environmental sustainability metrics and design strategies to achieve our corporate sustainability goals.
- Co-ordinate Monthly Environmental and Safety meetings
- Initiate and maintain pertinent permits for hazardous materials.
- Perform all duties in full compliance of all laws, safety and environmental regulations, and in a manner consistent with company policies and procedures.
RISK MANAGEMENT & COMPLIANCE
Conduct Risk Assessments, Health and Safety, and Environmental program evaluations and audits.
Organising/directing HAZLOC Studies from time to time at the Unit
Facilitate as the Chairperson on the Safety, Health and Environmental Committee
Co-ordinate internal& external EHS audits
Co-ordinates fire prevention program and identification of fire hazards and maintenance of fire equipment.
Conduct Health and Safety Induction to ensure compliance with all new employees.
Coordinate and manage accident / incident investigations and risk reporting.
Provide support to the operations team regarding identification of hazards and assessment of risks in the workplace and ensure that all contractor operations are subject to a SHEQ risk assessment prior to work.
Management of COIDA incident documentation and liaison with Department of Labour (DOL).
TESTING AND ANALYSIS:
Conduct process investigations, finds root cause of defects (performs root cause analysis of quality issues raised), and implement appropriate corrective action measures.
Test and verify products against established specifications / requirements and identify, hold and or reject products that do not meet the required specifications / standards.
Ensure internal customer complaints from the DC’s from receipt, testing through to communication of test results, generation and issuing of test reports.
Report all non-functional equipment and raise job cards.
Ensure that calibration and verification of measuring equipment is done.
Perform process-quality auditing using a checklist at prescribed frequencies.
File all quality records for record keeping purposes and to ensure ease of retrieval.
Facilitate corrective action process to ensure actions are followed up in a timely manner.
Update weekly quality scorecard and report.
Assist with maintenance of the ISO 9001 Quality System and assist with writing of work instructions (Standard Operating Procedures), improve troubleshooting documents, and participate during the company’s system audits.
Maintain housekeeping especially in the laboratory (area of responsibility) and assist with the implementation and maintenance of the 5S program.
PROJECT ACTIVITIES:
Participate in departmental and other meetings as required and provide regular feedback and updates on any production/process related issues.
Communicate with the department manager on issues of importance and provide up to date information on the progress of ongoing activities and projects.
Qualifications
Formal Qualifications:
Grade 12
Relevant qualification in Chemical Engineering / Analytical Chemistry / Quality or Production related qualifications
Pre-Requisite Experience:
2-3 years experience within the manufacturing industry
Knowledge and understanding of Six Sigma, continuous improvement initiatives PPE, Lockout/Tag out, LEAN Manufacuring, Machine Guarding, Forklift, Hazard Communication and incident managment can be advantage
