Position: Assistant Carpenter
Location: International placement onboard a cruise line
About the Opportunity:
Crew Life At Sea is currently recruiting Assistant Carpenters on behalf of one of our cruise line partners. This hands-on technical position is part of the Facility Management and Maintenance Department, where you will work alongside the ship’s Carpenter to perform high-quality repair and maintenance of wood and laminate structures in guest and crew areas. The ideal candidate will have solid experience in woodworking, a strong safety mindset, and a willingness to work in a multicultural maritime environment.
All candidates placed through Crew Life At Sea are hired directly by the cruise line and are never charged recruitment or placement fees.
Role Responsibilities:
- Assist with all woodwork maintenance tasks across guest and crew areas
- Review and manage maintenance requests through onboard systems
- Execute timely and safe repair work using appropriate tools and protective equipment
- Collect and verify required materials in collaboration with the Storekeeper
- Participate in daily briefings to receive task assignments and maintenance plans
- Help maintain accurate inventories and ensure materials are correctly stocked
- Keep the workshop organized and equipment properly maintained
- Carry out work in guest areas discreetly and safely to minimize disruption
- Perform additional hotel maintenance tasks as directed
- Promote and uphold onboard health and safety standards, including HESS protocols

Who We’re Looking For:
- Minimum of 2 years experience in a similar carpentry or maintenance role
- Skilled in wood and laminate repair techniques
- Familiar with basic power tools (e.g., drill, screwdriver)
- Team player with the ability to follow structured maintenance protocols
- English proficiency at A2 level or higher (according to CEFR)
- Committed to safety and quality workmanship
- Physically fit and capable of working in a shipboard environment
