The Deal Transactor will support the execution of funding transactions, structure project financing deals, and support the financial close process for SolarAfrica’s expanding pipeline of solar PV projects. The Deal Transactor plays a critical role in ensuring project bankability, aligning funding structures with business objectives, and managing key external relationships.
Position of the job in the organisation: The successful candidate will report directly to the Head of Fundraising
Principal responsibilities:
Transaction Execution & Financial Close:
- Drive the execution of funding transactions, ensuring alignment with project milestones.
- Coordinate due diligence, lender/investor engagement, and documentation for financial close.
- Lead transaction timelines, working closely with finance, insurance and financial modelling teams, legal, development, and technical teams.
Commercial Structuring:
- Negotiate terms of financing instruments including debt, equity, mezzanine, and hybrid structures.
- Prepare and review financial models, investment memos, and support internal approvals.
- Identify opportunities to optimise capital allocation across projects.
Stakeholder & Relationship Management:
- Manage day-to-day relationships with banks, DFIs, investors, and advisors.
- Represent SolarAfrica in lender negotiations and transaction closing processes.
- Maintain excellent communication with internal teams and external partners.
Funding Strategy Support:
- Support the Head of Fundraising in implementing capital-raising strategies.
- Contribute insights into funding markets and help shape structuring approaches for various asset classes.
Reporting & Compliance:
- Monitor compliance with financing conditions post-close.
- Assist with funding-related reporting to internal stakeholders and funding partners.

PERSON DESCRIPTION
Experience:
- 5+ years in project finance, investment banking, corporate finance, or infrastructure transactions.
- Direct experience leading or supporting financial close processes and negotiating with funders.
- Strong exposure to energy, infrastructure, or large-scale capital projects (solar PV preferred).
- Valid driver's license and willing to travel
Essential attributes:
- Advanced financial modelling and analysis.
- Familiarity with term sheets, loan agreements, equity investments, and related documentation.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and commercial negotiation skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage high-value, high-pressure transactions.
Desirable attributes:
- Exposure to renewable energy (especially solar PV) transactions.
- Understanding of compliance and regulatory requirements in project finance.
- Willingness to travel for investor and project site meetings.
What Does Success Look Like?
By Month 3:
- I will be actively supporting live transactions and taking over key responsibilities from interim leads.
- I will have reviewed active and upcoming project finance structures and associated documentation.
- I will have built working relationships with key stakeholders including legal, development, and lenders.
By Month 6:
- I will be leading full transaction workstreams from commercial negotiation through to close.
- I will have finalised at least one funding deal or tranche.
- I will have contributed to strategy sessions for project pipeline funding requirements.
By Month 12:
- I can independently manage and close transactions across multiple project types.
- I can optimise capital structures to align with strategic goals.
- I can maintain a deal pipeline aligned with company timelines and growth targets.
