This position requires a highly motivated, thoroughly organized and extremely detail oriented individual to supplement our engineering department.
The primary role of this position is to support outside plant fibre optic network design using geospatial software (QGIS and ArcGIS) and Customer systems and design processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in scope reviews to ensure design requirements and outputs are understood thoroughly
- Create complex geospatial QGIS designs and incorporate custom layouts as might be required by the various authorities.
- Create High Level Designs to define the network path and interact with field assistants
- Create permit drawings that include Right of Way permits, aerial make ready, and/or Traffic Control Plans for City, Railway and Road authorities. Understanding of permitting requirements and ensure that these requirements are captured appropriately in the permit package
- Have a good understanding where to gather parcel, plat and utility information
- Create underground drill profile drawings and/or aerial pole data tables
- Use fielding data, utility information, photos, and sketches to create cost effective designs
- Ensure obstacles such as culverts, waterways, easements, aerial trespass, etc. are accounted for in the design
- Create construction level drawings, including detailed Bill of Materials, and interact with project management office as well as with construction teams
- Create fibre allocation diagrams
- Perform aerial plant engineering, including a Bill of Materials
- Submit internal progress reporting to management on a regular basis

Experience:
- QGIS: 2 years (Required)
