As part of the Finance Team, the Financial Accountant will assist the Financial Manager. The individual will be responsible, under direction, to perform a variety of professional-level accounting duties involved in preparing, maintaining, analyzing, verifying, and reconciling complex financial transactions, statements, records, and reports; maintains the accuracy of the company’s ledgers and subsidiary financial systems; assists in the preparation of assigned budgets, prepares the annual financial statements and consolidated financial statements and assists with the annual audit for all asset management entities and other entities within the group. The Financial Accountant will also be responsible for handling key accounts of the business, as per the instruction of the Financial Manager
Requirements
General
- Responsible for setting up and improving accounting processes and internal controls where needed.
- Performing complex accounting activities such as account reconciliation and preparation of journal entries.
- Contract analysis and involvement in negotiating best business prospects.
- Ensure timely and accurate delivery of financial and tax reporting and dashboards.
- Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Overseeing income tax compliance, liaising with tax consultant for preparation, submission and payment of annual income tax and provisional tax.
- Assisting with the preparation, submission and payment of the VAT and PAYE.
- Assist with the consolidation of budgets and forecasts.
- Analysis of actuals vs budgets and forecasts and provide reasons for variances.
- Assist in reviewing management accounts and performance reporting.
People Management
- Manage all staff under supervision and conduct performance and talent management activities for direct reports.
- Coach and mentor direct reports. Identify team members for succession pipeline and career progression.
- Oversee effective utilization of systems and tools to ensure that knowledge is managed efficiently for continuous improvement.
- Recognize and make recommendations for the reward of high performing members; respects, promotes and accepts diversity.
Stakeholder Management
- Ensure smooth and efficient relations with relevant authorities, partners and clients.
- Liaise with external advisors, particularly auditors, tax company secretarial and legal.
Financial Reporting
- Assist the Financial Manager with the following:
- Manage the production of regular and ad hoc management reports to support and facilitate informed decision making around the financial and compliance and statutory landscape.
- Coordinate the bi-annual planning cycle and subsequent monthly performance reporting in accordance with company guidelines. Provide and challenge forward-looking estimates of performance.
- Provide reliable financial reporting, strategic and operational advice and support to the Senior Management Team and Directors.
- Liaising with external and other auditors for the statutory, internal and other types of audits of all entities.
- Prepare and complete all AFS within the Group either directly or with the help of the team or external service providers.
- Manage the preparation and dissemination of compliance reporting to key stakeholders such as senior debt trustees, letter of credit finance providers and covenant compliance reporting.
Risk Management
- Assist in monitoring risk for the group.
Compliance & Governance
- Assist with the implementation of transactions across the group in adherence to all relevant regulatory and business practices.
- Review company secretarial functions and ensure compliance with the Companies Act.
- Active risk management by applying and promoting a culture of on-going detection and resolution of Statutory, Regulatory compliance breaches.
- Ensure timely delivery of all statutory and fiscal reporting requirements.
- Actively participate in resolution management of the identified top 5 Finance risks.
- Financial Leadership
- Be a trusted adviser to Manco and the Board and support decision making with considered advice.
- Develop strategies to support the Group’s overall strategy.
Desired Skills and Qualifications
- Newly Qualified CA (SA)
- Experience in filing income tax, Payroll tax and VAT 201.
- ERP/SAGE knowledge advantageous
- Analysis of financial information
- Excellent Microsoft Excel skills; and proficiency in other Microsoft Office Suite of Products.
