POST TITLE: FIRST INSTRUCTOR

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent to contribute to the functioning of the Department of electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering. The incumbent will be responsible for but not limited to:
Instructor tasks:
- Providing instruction to students in Electrical Engineering, before and during practical sessions.
- Aiding the module lecturer and assistant lecturers during practical sessions.
- Develop and build circuits and laboratory setups for practicums as required by the module lecturer.
- Setup and test practicums so that these are ready before practicum sessions. This includes testing of designs and verification of results against requirements, and adaption as necessary.
- Evaluate students during practicum sessions, as required by module lecturer.
- Provide guidance to and support final year Project students.

Operational laboratory management and maintenance including ooverseeing the
life-cycle administration of assets. - Overseeing the administration, storage and lending of assets to personnel and students and recordkeeping of the latter.
- Management/maintenance of equipment.
- Interact with students and aiding as needed.
- Handle internaltechnical inquiries in connection with the Electrical laboratories.
- Providing general logistical support in the department.
- Assisting with general maintenance in theDepartment (instructions via line manager).
- Assisting during Open Days, Engineering Weekand other specialdepartmental or University events.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Relevant National Diploma or BTech Electrical Engineering.
- 5 Years’ relevant experience in a similar environment in a higher education institution. (University/Technical University electrical engineering education (laboratories).
- A valid driver’s license (Code B or EB).
- Proven experience in the use and maintenance of electrical and electronic Test and Measurement equipment related to teaching and research laboratories.
- Experience in the management, administration, and maintenance of an Electrical laboratory (University or Technical University).
- instrumentation related to research and teaching laboratories.
- Experience in OHS related research and teaching laboratories.
- Competent in the use of general workshop tools and equipment
ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

A postgraduate qualification MTech in Electrical Engineering
- 10 Years’ relevant experience in a similar environment in a higher education institution. (University/Technical University electrical engineering education (laboratories).
- First aid qualification.
- OHS Act 3 of 1993 qualification.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
Knowledge
- Knowledgeable on the principle and theory of equipment and instrument to train and assist staff and students.
- Management, administration, and maintenance of Electrical laboratories in research or academic institutions.
- Writing and maintaining SOP’s for an electrical, power electronics and renewable energy laboratory.
- Knowledgeable on the principle and theory of electrical, power electronics and renewable energies equipment and instrument to train and assist staff and students.
- Experience in Hydrogen Fuel cell operation and maintenance.
Technical Competencies
- Deep understating of electrical machines and drive, power electronics, renewable energy technologies and electrical laboratory equipment.
- Proficient in the use of computers for this position.
- Understanding and teaching of health, environmental, and fire safety aspects specific to electrical, renewable energy, hydrogen, and fuel cell environment.
- PLC programming skills according to IEC 61131-3.
- AC and DC drive operation, maintenance, and repair.
- Able to transfer knowledge (principle and theory of the instrument and test).
- Project management with the ability to plan, implement, and assess projects, including safety and budget considerations.
Behavioural Competencies
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Good language and communication skills.
- Ability to cope with stringent deadlines and work pressure.
- Ability to work independently.
- Organizational and networking skills.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
