This role is based in Mokopane, Limpopo.
Job Description
-Come and join this dedicated team as a Foreman Fitter where you will be responsible to ensure a safe, efficient and productive engineering maintenance on all devices in the Smelter through the supervision of a team of artisans.
Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Assist the business area management team in developing an operational plan for the year to support the Smelting process in achieving throughput objectives.
- Undertake to plan, up to 1 year ahead and assists with 5 year planning, the budget requirements according to the planned maintenance schedules verses operational targets and budgets.
- Undertake to plan the spares requirements according to the planned maintenance schedule and ensure their availability.
- Liaise with the business area management team regarding daily, weekly and monthly progress to plan, budget and employee resources.
- Oversee that all work practices are executed in compliance with legal requirements.
- Regularly communicate progress of section against operational targets and objectives via a design communication and supervisory forum to subordinates.
- Plan and co-ordinate daily, weekly and monthly work requirements and priorities with operational team (planned work and shut downs)
- Allocate labour resources and equipment to scheduled and priority activities so as to maintain and ensure high levels of labour, equipment and operational performance standards
- Chairing green area meetings at the start of each day.
- Attending General Safety meeting and giving feedback to team.
- Stop and repair area/plant as soon as possible after problem identification.
- Investigation of incidents/accidents in area of responsibility (find root causes and sort out timeously).
- Oversee the development of a healthy spirit of co-operation within the section
- Identify operational priorities within the section that would ensure the optimisation of the section’s performance
- Monitor the process to identify any possible problems or risk areas to the section and schedule remedy actions.
- Ensure availability for after hours standby duties.
- Allocate multi-task team members to Artisans when required to perform and ensure effective maintenance.
- Accompany the Engineers on regular inspections and audits around the section.
- Review operational plans and re-assign targets and objectives to subordinates.
- Capturing data to be used for analysis to ensure better maintenance.
- Find the cause of breakdowns and correct.
- Update drawings on instrument loops and when changes occur.
- Quality maintenance tested by random inspections.
- Stop unnecessary overtime.
- Ensure correct calling out (procedure and investigate).
- Purchasing of good quality equipment.
- Reparation of spares as soon as possible.
- Ensure that employees have clear work expectations and plans.
- Communicate effectively with manager.
- Support the induction of new employees.
- Assist with the succession planning process of the section.
- Hold disciplinary and grievance inquiries.
- Identify potential conflict situations and minimize the implications.
- Control discipline and ensure fair decisions regarding Industrial Relations.
- Fairly manage cultural diversity.
This role is at a Band C5 level reporting to the Section Engineer .
- -Qualified as an Fitter
- Foreman Certificate

Experience, Knowledge and Skills
- Five years post trade qualified experience
- Supervisory experience would be advantageous
- Computer literate in full MS Office
- SAP knowledge
- Good analytical and decisions making skills
- Valid driving license
