Job Description
- Responsible for ensuring that plant and production equipment is maintained to required standards.
- Attend to day-to-day breakdowns as per job cards.
- Plan and carry out preventative maintenance of plant equipment.
- Mentorship of apprentices
- Carry out any other related mechanical jobs as required and requested by the team
Required outputs: functional
General Functions:
- Ensure cost effective maintenance, identify inefficiencies, and implement corrective actions.
- Identify critical spares and tools and ensure upkeep
- Identify consumable needs and upkeep of consumable store
- Participate in plant risk assessment and SHEQ initiatives
- Issue of maintenance clearance certificates and ensure work is carried out to AECI standards.
Installations:
- Installation of mechanical processing equipment (i.e. pumps, pipes, mechanical structures, agitators, etc).
- Day-to-day plant equipment preventative and breakdown maintenance.
- Fabrication of steel and piping. Performing ARC, TIG and other types of welding methods depending on the project.
- Pipe fitting and troubleshooting. Must also be able to come up with concepts for improvement where required.
- Accurately complete all job cards and recordkeeping.
- Troubleshooting of processing plant, effluent plant, agitators, pumps and forklift.
- Occasional planning and installation for new project.
Maintenance:
- Preventative maintenance planning and execution
- Carry out breakdown maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment.
- Accurate record keeping of all maintenance work done
- Conduct general housekeeping in the workshop.
- On occasion required to carry out miscellaneous legal ad hoc tasks for which the incumbent is competent as instructed by the Team Leader.
- Required to adhere to all company and work site safety rules and regulations.
Qualifications & Experience
Tertiary:
Minimum education Grade 12 with post matric qualification of NQF Level 3 or more.
Valid trade test certificate for Mechanical Fitted (Red Seal).
Welding certificate advantageous.
Experience:
Minimum of 3-5 years’ relevant experience as a Fitter
Prior work experience in the Production, Workshop, Plant, Maintenance, Mechanical as well as Chemical environment with a good understanding in operating equipment.
Knowledge & Skills:
Confidence in ability to weld effectively and efficiently, namely ARC welding, Argon welding and TIG welding.
Knowledge of engineering science and technology. Good mechanical fitting skills.
Strong ability to do pump alignment.
Basic understanding of hydraulics and pneumatics.
Profound knowledge of and ability to use hand held tools and tools of the trade.
Awareness of MerSETA apprenticeship requirements.
Basic knowledge of the OHS Act.
Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job including adherence to safety.
Computer literary in MS Office (Word/Excel)
Ability to successfully mentor apprentices.
Expert in the regulation codes to self-inspect incumbent’s work and ensure that everything is up to standard.
Must be able to report to the Maintenance Team Leader
