Mission/ Core purpose of the Job
Business Operations within the Formal Retail Channel and is responsible for overseeing the operational planning, management and implementation of the strategy
Manage priorities and initiatives within the office of the General Manager: Formal Retail.
Support the area by driving strategic alignment and cross functional integration, as well as operational and performance reporting to achieve efficiencies across the various functions within Consumer Business Unit.
Ensure synergy between the Formal Retail Team, General Manager, Chief Prepaid office, the Prepaid CBU team and the rest of the company.
Key Activities & Responsibilities
Strategic Input and Execution
Driving strategy implementation across Retail Channels using Retail Channel insights . In collaboration with leadership, set business goals and targets -ensure effective operational implementation of the strategy by providing direction, structure, frameworks, plans and roadmaps to meet the key KPIs.
To integrate and drive synergies on business streams and fostering alignment to and governance requirements among the different subdivisions.
To align operational needs of Retail Channels to external economic and commercial environment for sustainability.
Drive effective change management where necessary supporting strategy implementation
Provide guidance and expertise with regards business plans and trade execution alignment to Regional performance for channel portfolio partners.
Business Management and Operational Delivery
Assist leaders in defining targets for operational performance across the Retail Channels areas and identify the parameters for measurement of performance.
Define an operational governance framework by developing processes, frameworks, templates and reporting tools for adoption within CBU
Conduct business case conceptualization and target setting for Channel Incentives (National, Regional, Partner specific),
Serve as liaison between employees, staff, executives, senior leaders, regarding project updates, proposals, and planning.
Serve as a subject matter expert, handling inquiries and developing action plans to address them, and assisting with the preparation and dissemination of communications
Produce insights on Retail Channel operational analytics such as analysis on competitor products, pricing, offers for prepaid market trends etc.
Coordinate all supporting functions to enable operational delivery on the Retail Channel’s strategic objectives. This includes Incentive Campaign Management –Co-ordinating Internal sign off and modelling –Business Finance –Commissions
Provide a key role in enabling end to end Retail Channel Projects i.e Apps, Value Added Services, Channel/Customer CVM input, integration requirements to drive 2025 Ambition –Telco –Techno.
Ensure robust collaboration with Finance Business Partners, Regional Management, Channel Management to enable channel execution.
Ensure the formalisation of processes and the management of corrective actions to achieve set goals.
Reporting
Establishing and managing all the key planning, reporting, and projects reporting on an ongoing basis (Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, Annually)
Oversee and conduct the consolidated business performance reporting for Formal Retail Channels. Co-ordinate and Quality review of business performance reporting
Highlight to the management significant deviations from defined performance metrics
Report on an ad-hoc basis on specific projects, as required.
Continuous Improvement
Drive best practice, continuous improvement and innovation at process and procedure level within Retail Channels.
Ensure that the relevant analysis of market knowledge, trends and competitive information is gathered and assimilated
Ensure competitors benchmarking and gap analysis is performed as appropriate and incorporated into business operations
Initiate change to continually improve all aspects of service delivery and drive continuous improvement as an important element of service delivery.
Budget Management
Coordinate and review the Retail Channels budget, ensuring that it provides MTN with return on investment, and obtain approval thereof. Ensure co-ordination of the annual Business planning of Retail Channels
Develop and manage project initiative budgets in line with business objectives.
Manage and optimise and communicate the budget, expense report, ensuring that all expenditure is in line with the budget.
Monitor costs and determine initiatives to optimize resources. Ensure cost effectiveness by maximizing cost/benefit ratios.
Identify opportunities to generate additional revenue.
Base annual budgets on the identification of trends and patterns within the current operations and extrapolate these over the next planning cycle. taking any known changes in new products or services into consideration
Business Process Analysis
Identify business improvement and optimisation opportunities that will result in the improvement of processes and performance
Assist with benchmarking activities with other companies and organizations within and outside MTN.
Assist in identifying innovative ways to use minimum resources to achieve maximum outputs for the division
Design, analyse and document workflow and make appropriate recommendations that will positively impact operational effectiveness
Drive best practice, continuous improvement and innovation at process and procedure level
People Leadership/ Management
Co-define the formal retail channel KPAs and KPIs that will be cascaded down to each level.
Enable and model healthy employee relations and collaborative teamwork
Act as an ambassador for the Channels team by living the Brand values and vital behaviors.

Education
Bachelor's degree / relevant 3-year business / financial degree
Experience
Minimum 2-3 years of experience in sales operations or a related role.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Data analysis skills and experience with reporting tools (e.g., Excel)
Experience working in a medium to large organization
Proven experience in business analysis and business optimization experience, in process driven environments
Proven ability to develop, document and maintain operational policies and procedures, including the designing and documenting detailed process flows, and the development of operational performance and quality metric standards and reports
Proven experience working with Excel and PowerPoint and developing and maintaining various analyses and reporting tools
Demonstrated experience performing complex financial/cost analyses and related valuation methodologies, systems, and quantitative business-based analyses
