Kumba Iron Ore
We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Centurion, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.
Job Description
As our P&O Projects Advisor, your responsibilities will include but not limited to:
- Maintain a safe and healthy environment through adherence to all SHE policies following Kumba standards, promoting a safety-focused culture in all operations.
- Performance and Delivery
- P&O Advisory and Operational Support
- Provide advice, guidance, and support to employees and line managers on interpreting P&O policies, procedures, and employment terms and conditions.
- Through technical proficiency, deliver P&O services such as manpower planning, recruitment, performance management, reward, management of incapacity cases, and employee relations.
- Actively participate in various operational meetings, e.g. monthly departmental/section team meetings, to ensure alignment and fit-to-purpose service.
- Provides independent support and advice to comply with transformational and labour legislation and to proactively identify barriers to enable line management to manage transformational and labour issues.
- Assist line managers in developing well-defined structures and roles with aligned competencies and learning paths.
- Assist line managers in developing and determining levels of employee capabilities through talent management, performance management standards, and development initiatives.
- Assist in maintaining sound employee relations through continuous coaching, consulting, and negotiating with various stakeholders.
- Monitor good P&O practices through P&O reporting to line management to enable them to comply and improve people and social processes.
- Conduct diagnostic studies, analyse data to determine root causes for people-related problems, and advise line management on viable solutions.
- Ensure data integrity through auditing and maintenance of the relevant P&O systems, within the CPM structure.
Sustainability and Social
- Ensure alignment and collaboration with the Social Way Program within Kumba.
People and Teams
- Network, promote teamwork, provide support, and advise and influence performance to give effect to the Organisation Model.
- Support OE performance capability and talent of the P&O team.
Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements by conducting market analysis, networking, and international and local benchmarking.
- Ensure all businesses comply with corporate governance, policies, statutory, legal, and other requirements.
This role is in People and Organisation department on a band 6 level reporting to the Section Manager P&O Projects and Contractors.
Qualifications
- Relevant Diploma in Human Resources Management (NQF6)
- Relevant B-Degree (NQF7)
- SA Drivers License
Technical Knowledge
- 3-5 years of experience in human resources, ideally within a projects or contractor management environment.
- Strong understanding of People & Organisation (P&O) generalist functions, including operational delivery.
- Proven track record in key HR functions such as:
- Performance Management
- Employee Relations
- Recruitment
- Learning and Development
- Reward Management
- Organisational Change and Development
- Up-to-date knowledge of P&O trends, with a future-focused approach to innovation and transformation in HR practices.
- Demonstrated understanding of external business environments and awareness of how industry changes impact internal HR functions, processes, and capabilities.
